Voted "Best of 2006" by the Colorado Springs Independent "The Remotes, a rock and roll band from Colorado Springs, Colorado is setting the local club scene on fire. From their high energy electric delivery of rock standards to their sultry performance of well known ballads, their musicianship and delivery are setting a higher standard for the local music scene. If you haven't yet caught one of their performances...you need to."

From the evidence turning up on local club stages, densely structured and emotionally rendered progressive rock is back in style. The Remotes, in a couple of short years, has moved to the front of the local pack with its original mix of contemporary flavored rock styling--which garnered the band new band recognition last year. The Remotes are a Colorado Springs, Colorado based band specializing in classic / modern rock featuring songs from the 60's, 70's 80's, 90's and now!

The past year has seen The Remotes swiftly rise in the Colorado Springs music scene. With their avant-garde artwork and explosive yet subtle live shows, this postmodern indie/classic rock band plays by their own rules. Born early 2004, The Remotes approach was unique as they found their identity and developed a distinctive sound in their own home recording studio. After performing live only twice, The Remotes released their first recording, in April 2004 to a packed house. The buzz around the band grew. By October, The Remotes were headlining shows all over Colorado Springs.

Receiving praise from both critics and peers alike, The Remotes won the Critic's Choice award for Best New Band in 2004. With the group getting regular positive reviews from the local music scene The Remotes became a "force to reckon with." Because of their eclectic sound, The Remotes has shared the stage with a variety of regional and local acts.

"People don't always know what they like, but they like what they know," says cover band vocalist and bass player Billy Denam of The Remotes.
After hooking up back in 2004, every band member of The Remotes has added a taste of what he likes. Brothers Johnny "Flash" Mills (guitar, vocals) and Tim Howard (sound engineering, percussion) add their free spirit; Scott Riebel (lead guitar) brings a stage presence; and John "Animal" Mounier, well, he's the heartbreaker.
All mesh together to form a diverse, yet cohesive, group of outgoing guys. And their music is just as varied. There are no limits, the band says, listing both The Beatles and Fall Out Boy as acts they enjoy covering.
"We're like your favorite mixed eight-track!" Riebel says, laughing.
As long as it's a dance mix. The Remotes say they like to play the "danciest" modern classic rock tunes they can find. That allows the crowd to get loose and have fun. And when that happens, it's easier for the band members to do the same.
"I'm much happier screaming up and down at shows," Mills says. "I didn't know I had it in me."
