"First impressions are important. They set up the tone for the rest of the encounter whether it is a face to face meeting or a first listen to a band you have never heard before. The Copied Copied open their CD with â€œPretty Hallwaysâ€. This song starts off as a fairly innocuous piece, opening with some tuned feedback that resolves into the opening acoustic guitar riff. Unfortunately the feedback does not stop at the intro. It hides behind the music until by halfway through the song it is a dull ice pick being pushed slowly into your ears and violates your brain. I honestly could not pay much attention to the song as the feedback was killing me. The ending may be the most sublime piece of audio manna ever sent down by the gods, but I will never hear it as the feedback made it impossible for me to continue further than half way. What I did get out of it was an impression of old school brit-pop ala The Beatles (minus the accent) and a mild headache. Your engineer should be shot. What could be a pretty decent song has been relegated to trash can lining and may only serve to create a small increase in the stock price of Tylenol.
