About Me

G9tGPGIps"Mike Lockwood began his musical journey in his childhood taking in the early sounds of Elton John in his mother's car on trips to California. After being fascinated by the feeling of making music on a clarinet at age 12, Mike began his life-long journey into the depths of drums and percussion musiq in 1997. Mike made it through a public high school program without learning much of anything new from the various instructional staff he encountered in the four years. This situation led him to a little Drum Corps out of California called The Mandarins. He was challenged there. His ears were developed and he grew to understand the disciplinary aspects of being a musician. Mike has since been involved in a number of bands and musical projects including Breakneck, Longdouble, My Stealthy Self, Sly Buford, Something Very Symmetrical. Mike currently is in his 5th year at the University of Nevada, Reno studying jazz and improvisational music where he is beginning to dig into the life-long goal of living through improvisation. He has just completed his 5th & last year instructing, writing and arranging music for the Reed High School percussion department. Mike Lockwood's current projects include the completion of his BA in Music, writing and arranging tunes for small group improvisation as well as unique exercises to develop movement and interaction between the four limbs on the drum set, composing and performing various electronic musiks, slave labor, a renewed dedication to his practice regiment and continuing an in-depth investigation of the musical possibilities on the drum set.THANKS FOR LISTENING.
