On this dynamic debut, the world meets Stalley, (the moniker a derivative of the majestic black mare- Stallion) True to his tagg, he trots triumphantly over tracks, making this disk a derby. A proud Sunni Muslim, activist, and emcee- he lives by his self-described mantra “Neo Backpacker, Sunni Swaggerâ€. Massillon, Ohio born- Brooklyn bred, a champion has emerged. Deliverance from the depths and depravity of dumbed down flows has been had. With affinity for the art, Stalley aims to bring breadth and depth back to the forefront of hip-hop’s frontier.
With vigor and versatility, Stalley eases over beats with eloquence, his prose packed with potency. Nearly every measure is massively metaphoric. Chock full of catchy hooks and vicious verses- and with Terry Urban at the helm- this is a sure fire classic.
Inspired by the likes of Nas, Black Thought, Mos Def, Talib, and Common -as well as various hip hop originators- Stalley aspires to bring hip hop back to its past prominence. (Give his rendition of Hey Young World" a listen). He's resolved to restore hip hop to its original essence - when wordplay, content, and conscious political commentary were paramount.
