Austria Here i Come!!!!

About Me

I started writing lyrics in early 2000 mostly about myself my friends and scenarios that we got ourselves into. I would just spit over an instrumental round at T-Cuts flat and maybe record something to give as a birthday present or gift for any occasion as I was always short on cash! It was never a conscious decision for me to become a rapper, I listened to a lot of rap growing up through my brother Tony who at one point had “fuck brit pop” scrawled on his wall to give you an idea of what kind of time it was. It was US stuff at first; I used to bang out Snoop and Warren G, Dr Dre, Ice Cube, Ice T, Tha Fushnickens, Fugees, Onyx I even bought Da Brat! Hahaha! But at that point I didn’t fully aspire to write songs I just liked swear words a lot. I had the Raiders Jacket and Beanie and used to stay up to watch YO MTV RAPS when it was on just loving the vibrancy of the scene. So fast forward 3 years from the T-Cut sessions to 2003 and I’m at college in Chichester, still doing a little rapping here and there when Out in chi one night I hear that there’s an MC battle going on at Time and Envy nightclub in Southsea. Not being a battle MC and only free-styling in front of mates I went along to watch only! So when it kicked off I was pretty amazed at the poor quality of MCing that was goin on and thought fuck it I might as well get up and take the piss out of some idiots so I did and ended up coming second over all after beating some half decent MCs. That night a lot of people came up asking where they could hear my stuff and if I was working on an album so I thought to myself hmmmm better find a producer………. As luck would have it a girl by the name of Steph that I worked with said she had started seeing this guy that made beats, so we arranged to meet up and see what each other had to offer. The night I met Naïve I think we recorded 3 tracks straight from the get go and that was it, from then on it was Dilla & Naive!Even when I started writing and recording more it was all still for the fun of it or to vent my frustrations that I was experiencing in my life, you know girls, money, money and girls things like that. Through Naïve I had met a group of other artists that with myself included went on to form “Tactical Thinking” based in the Bath/Bristol area. It was a record label of sorts but more of a flag to show that we’re all part of the same movement. Through that came some collaborations and shows supporting acts at club nights around the UK. “Tactical Thinking” is still up and running and will be releasing a record featuring all of the original line up soon so watch this space. Now a lot of time has passed since I first started messin about making little mix tapes with T-Cuts and with the creation of myspace.com I’ve found a lot more people that are into my stuff from being played on late night Radio 1 and 1Xtra on Ras Kwame and Blakey to being reviewed by Chris Salmon in national newspaper The Guardian. (See below)"Hailing from Brighton, Kid Genius are an unsigned UK hip-hop act featuring beatmaker Naive and rapper Dilla. The duo's mix of the witty, the gritty, the hooky and the thoughtful should appeal to fans of Eminem (though they don't ape him). Pick of the bunch on their MySpace player are The Morning After, which pieces together the events of a drinking binge, and the conscious Racking My Brain, which somehow covers suicide, Iraq, British youth, consumerism, the class system and impending environmental disaster in four minutes, without ever being worthy or preachy. It's enormously promising stuff."Chris Salmon - the Guardian Friday November 17, 2006 http://arts.guardian.co.uk/filmandmusic/story/0,,1949253,00. htmlI’m now taking things a little more seriously and I’m looking for people interested in helping me to get my music out to the masses. I’ll be playing more shows all round so any promoters can get in touch if they want me to play their night. Also I’m always working on new tracks so if you’re a DJ and you want exclusives then hit me up for the latest Demo. MyGen Profile Generator
