Books:
"Into The Wild" & "Into Thin Air" by John Krakauer. If you haven't read these, you must! Not only is he an amazing writer in his style and description, but these are true stories. They will move you.
Heroes:
My son, He survived quite the intense stay for 2 weeks in ICU and 2 weeks being monitered (1 month total) at Sutter Memorial in Sacramento. He won't remember it, thank goodness. He has a zest for life that some people would sell their souls for.
