Cat's Rats is a small "rattery" (gross term) specializing in pet quality rats. All babies are handled and socialized with humans and other rats from day one. My rats are bred for beautiful markings, but first and foremost they're bred for superior health and temperment.
Adoptions will be considered on an individual basis. I reserve the right to refuse adoption at any time to any person(s) I feel won't be able to provide a safe home for my rats. At the time of adoption, prospective parents will be required to provide an acceptable home for their new pets. This includes:
- a habitat with an appropriate amount of space and bedding
-"rat-proofed" walls (for young rats, cages with 1" or smaller gaps between the wire. for older rats, cages with 1.5" or smaller.)
-water bottle
-food container
-wooden chew for healthy trim teeth.
Although it is not required for adoption, Cat's Rats strongly urges all small pet owners to never use cedar bedding. Cedar bedding releases dust that's extremely harmful to small animals' respiratory systems. Rats have especially delicate respiratory systems and can easily succumb to related diseases in poor conditions. Using an alternative bedding (such as newspaper, cotton, recycled paper, etc) can greatly reduce respiratory irritation. I recommend Carefresh Bedding, available at Petsmart in a green package.
Because rats are social animals and do better with company, rats will be adopted out in pairs or more. Exceptions to this rule will be made in some cases. Contact me to ask.
CAT'S RATS DOES NOT CONDONE OR PROMOTE THE SALE. PURCHASE OR ADOPTION OF ANY RATS TO BE USED AS FEEDERS FOR SNAKES OR OTHER ANIMALS.
For added protection against individuals seeking snakefood, a small adoption fee will be requested to help cover breeding costs.
In the event that you can no longer provide a home for your rats at anytime after the adoption, Cat's Rats will take the rats back-- no questions asked. PLEASE DO NOT GIVE THEM TO A PET STORE.
