My name is I-shamanI Ikembe Da Purity. I hail from Tortola B.V.I. I give all honour and praises unto His Imperial Majesty Emperor of Ethiopia Haile Selassie the 1st. I only chant for the betterance of I and I people and also to glorify JAH HOLA NAME for unto us a child is BORN and unto us a SON is given government is upon his shoulders his name is called wonderful, councellor, prince of peace and almighty father. So IanI music is more than just music it's a living testimony and all apart of prophecy. No time to chill have to be hot like a FYA!!! JUDGE MENT!!!
ABOUT ISHAMANI
Ishamani Ikembe (aka Isha for short) was born Kendell Gilbert on November 3rd 1983 to parents Kenneth and Patricia Gilbert. From a very young age, Kendell has shown a love for music. In his early teens, he grew to love Boyz II Men, Ginuwine, Jagged Edge, Dru Hill and many other R&B acts, but he always had a love for rap music. From artists like Tupac, The Notorious BIG, Jay Z and DMX to Dr. Dre, Mobb Deep and the Lox.
He wasn’t the typical youth who entered in talent shows or showed his tsalent, it was sort of hidden, he knew he could sing but no one encouraged him so he kept it a secret to himself. When he was 15 years old he began to show interest in the Rastafari faith and he began his change in becoming a Rastafarian. He started to listen to more reggae music and artists like Sizzla, Anthony B, Capleton, Norissman, Garnet Silk and Buju Banton.
At age 19, he recalls the first time he wrote and sung a song in his friends Menalek’s room, who encouraged him to pursue music. He dropped “Have to Blaze a Fiyah” and “Empress Divine” Around this time he started to call himself Ishamani aka Isha, which means “one who protects.” According to him:
“I kept hearing of this land called Shashamane Land, so i did my research on such a place and found out that H.I.M. LEFT OVA 500 HECTORS OF LAND FOR THE SLAVES TO RETURN HOME to ETHIOPIA, AFRICA, now during that time i was just seeking in the faith, and still is, so it felt relevant to me and to my being inside my soul to carry such a name I know that i shall play a significant role in the BURNING OF BABYLON, it's like what the bible said, when the TRUMPET sounds we will all know H.I.M. So thats how i and i came to know iandi spiritual connection with the father and i is real cause he gave me such a name to match i man character jus like when father changed Saul 's name to Paul.”
He says he get his motivation, drive and inspiration to keep him going from the Most High, Haile Selassie I the First. He’s been blessed to perform on stage shows throughout Tortola. He done opening acts for Midnite Band, De Apostle, Elephant Man, Freddie McGregor, Beenie Man, Luciano, Buju Banton, Capleton, Kiprich and Alaine, and the list keeps on growing as his musical talent increases.
In the future he would like to work with Sizzla Kalongi because he is like a trendsetter. Lil wayne because he is like one rebelling against the sytem in a revolutionary way like in his song “Georgia Bush”, and other VI Reggae artists like Pressure and Niyorah. He would like to work with many producers like Fattis Burell. In terms of being signed to a major record label, he comments:
“Yes sure as long as they aint gonna b jerking me of too much at least i want to be able to gain off of the material i dish out i kno that we'll have to share the profit but i wouldnt mind taking a back seat from the publicity and the glamour to more stay focus on my mission i'm not saying that i dont want money but confusion ova money is a catastrophe.”
