Aloha Mountain Radio
The Aloha Mountain Groove Band actually has its origins in the tradewind-kissed turquoise sea tropics of the Hawaiian islands, the arid crisp buzz of the California coast, the ancient mysterious otherworldly deserts of Arizona, and Colorado's mythically majestic Rocky Mountains. There is a sense of travel, time, adventure and all manner of forces of nature that informs their songs and music:
Theirs is the sound of open highways, thunderstorms and neon signs. It is also a sound which evokes glimpses of mountains, moonrises over vast ancient deserts and of beaches yet to be discovered.
The Aloha Mountain Groove Band is a favorite and ongoing passion of the ever-intrepid musical archaeologist and resident sonic chameleon Renn Loa or rennloa.com ; nicely serving as an outlet for his seemingly insatiable wanderlust... and stylistic restlessness - allowing for the slightly more organic and country-yet-groovin' side of founding member Renn's musical character.
"Well, sure we may have GREAT songs - but are we commercially appealing visually?!"

Though originally born in Hawaii where he was surrounded by Polynesian island music (a MAJOR source of country music!) as well as jazz, exotica, reggae, soul, pop, and folk rock - Renn went on to travel and live in many of the mainland United States, spending most of his time wandering the West and Southwestern states - gaining new perspectives and atmospheres to weave into the tapestries of his songs as well as whole new temperatures and vocabularies of groove. After having traveled extensively throughout Europe, Renn is currently based in both Norway and Hawaii where he works with some of the most successful artists, studios and producers in the country.

The Snuff Garrett -produced demo, which features multi-CMA award winning keyboardist John Hobbs and the legendary guitarist from Johnny Cash's band, Al Casey , attracted an offer from Joe Walsh and Bill Szymczyk, for Renn to fill in for Don Henley at a time when it seemed Henley wasn't going to be able to take time off from his solo career for the proposed reunion.
Loa appears on recordings by Ralph Myerz and the Jack Herren Band, Morten Abel, Sondre Lerche, Barbie Bones, and Magnet (Renn is the entire background choir on Magnet & Gemma Hayes' re-make of the Bob Dylan classic, Lay Lady Lay). Additionally this song is on the Mr & Mrs Smith Soundtrack , and songs from his Renn Loa's Hawaii Project CD

As Renn reflects; "The depth of my gratefulness and thankfulness is only exceeded by the level of my surprise that somehow my music has brought such a stellar and legendary cast of such talented producers and musicians into my humble orbit; I feel very privileged, honored and fortunate to have had this experience; not that any of this has translated to massive commercial success...as yet;-)" Though up to this point we haven't been able to Break On Through the financial politics of the music industry we have enjoyed the acknowledgement, praises, and positive feedback of some of the its most respected and successful denizens and that is so much more rewarding than mere commercial success... Well ok; make that NEARLY as rewarding;-)

At one time, Hawaiian music was the most popular music in the United States, outselling all other types of music (classical, jazz, etc.) combined. The influence of the Hapa Haole style was widespread and continues to be felt today. Country and Western Swing steel styles are the direct descendants of the Hawaiian masters like Sol Hoopii, Andy Iona, Dick McIntire, King Bennie Nawahi and many others. The first electric instrument was the frying pan Hawaiian lap steel which opened the door for every electric instrument since. It is in the tradition of these great musicians that The Aloha Mountain Groove Band wishes to spread the message of International Hawaiianism and Aloha spirit.
