Sting and Miles Davis are my two all-time favorites. On any given day I can jump from Frank Sinatra to Rage Against the Machine to classic instrumental jazz. That about sums up my musical tastes - I'm all over the map, anything but country.
To me, there are 5 films every filmmaker ought to watch once a year: The Godfather Part II is the pinnacle of American filmmaking. You can't make a better action movie than the original Die Hard. Citizen Kane still impresses me. The Matrix (the original!) is the myth for the new century (replaces '77 Star Wars). The documentary Easy Riders, Raging Bulls: How the Sex, Drugs, and Rock 'n Roll Generation Saved Hollywood is an essential portrait of the trends that shaped our current industry.
Mythbusters; Stargate: Atlantis; working on Season 3 of The Wire; can't wait for new episodes of Rescue Me!
Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, James M. Cain, Ernest Hemingway... you could say I like 'em hardboiled...
My two sons.
