I was first introduced to BLACK ON SUNSHINE when checking out a motorcycle in Los Angeles; a black Kawasaki Z900 from the 70's, a beautiful beast. Long story short: I never bought the bike as my interest in it revealed it was not for sale after all...old habits die hard, I guess, but I did not leave empty handed. Chance had delivered me at the door of what was to become my favorite rock band; the chemistry of personalities was a gentle hand pulling me into the fold to add visuals to the aural thrills they had created. "Climbing down my sheets into a darkened world, diving for a pearl," they sing in Sweet Jim -- A darkened world where one is painfully aware of the passing of time and is warned, "Don't be late, a tender branch will break underneath the weight of tomorrow..." Half-chances race by windows of opportunity, appearing and disappearing in the blink of an eye as a flesh crawling kingsnake burns up the tall grass and YOU are the prize. This is no death trip but a plaintive urging to seek life's greatest possibilities. This album inspires me to get out of bed in the morning and that, folks, is no joke. With reserved sadness I realize it is only a matter of time before I must share it with legions of pop aficianados, indie rockers and proponents of the D.I.Y. ethic. I hope you get there soon. ------------ Black Daal, Los Angeles
