About Me

Born in Essex, UK. Lived and schooled in Southampton, UK. Went to art school and studied graphic design, but dropped out to play stand-up bass. First real band I played for was Get Smart, one LP on Nervous Records in '85 I think. Played on and off with the Caravans and Frantic Flintstones. Recorded 3 or 4 albums with each band. Been with the Guana Batz since 1988 (20 years this year!) Started out drumming for the band after Diddle (R.I.P) left. Recorded "Electra Glide In Blue" on World Service in '89. Toured all over Europe, Japan and Brazil. Recorded Get Around (not my favorite) before switching to bass after a couple of band member changes. First and last Batz recording on bass was "Powder Keg" back in '96, with Boz Borer and Pete Gage behind the desk. Moved to the US in 1996 after a short California tour with the Batz. Joined 13 Cats in I think '99 after Smutty Smiff left. Recorded for Wanda Jackson, Head Cat (with Lemmy), a couple or 3 cd's with Barn Yard Ballers, Connie and drummed on a couple of records with The Steam Kings, still one of my favorite bands. Played with Polecats, Slim Jim Phantom and Daryl Higham, Levi Dexter, Go Getters, and Cash Kings. Have I missed any one? Married to my beautiful wife Jackie with 2 beautiful children, Jack and Eloise. Living and working in Southern California.guanabatz "steet wise" music video

My Interests

It's not play, it's work....honest!

I'd like to meet:

Hugh Laurie. We could ride our Triumphs around So Cal together. I've always liked his comedy work from years back with Stephen Fry, and House is #1 on my tivo list. Jules Holland. I would love to play with Jules. Liked his work with Squeeze, loved The Tube, and know that his piano playing and my bass playing would rock. I met Brian Setzer a couple of times when Guana Batz played with the Stray Cats aling time ago, but I haven't run into him for years. Seems to be the hardest Cat to bump into. Played with Jim alot and love the way he plays drums, would like to play in a double, doulblebass line up with Lee, I see him now and then, but would love to play with Brian. ..

Mixing it up

I read Pip's blog about fans thinking bands sell out, and I must admit I felt that way when I was younger. Now, with the scene the way it is, I would much rather go to a show and see a mix of bands pl...
