Judah is the current World Welterweight Champion as recognized by the IBF, WBA and WBC, the three primary boxing organizations worldwide. In February 2005, before the largest crowd in history to ever witness an indoor boxing match, Judah defeated Cory Spinks to win all three belts.
Nicknamed simply "Super", Judah was a 2005 finalist for the ESPY Award for "Best Boxer." The 27 year old Brooklyn, New York native is currently 33-2 with 25 knockouts as a pro, coming off of an amateur career in which he won 110 of 115 bouts, winning 2 U.S. national amateur championships, and 3 New York Golden Gloves titles. Judah is trained by his father, Yoel, a three-time world champion kickboxer who also trains the likes of Winky Wright and Ricardo Mayorga.
Prior to turning pro, Judah, who compiled an extraordinary 110-5 amateur record, was a two-time U.S. national amateur champion, three-time New York Golden Gloves champion and won the 1996 PAL Nationals. In a major surprise, however, Judah failed to earn a berth on the '96 U.S. Olympic boxing team. "Failing to earn a berth on the U.S. Olympic team was tough to deal with at the time because I always had dreamed of winning a gold medal," Judah said. "But, once it was over, I decided to put my entire focus on my pro career and winning a world title rather than pout."
Judah, one of seven brothers who box, is the son of Yoel Judah, a six-time kickboxing world champion. When asked who the best fighter in the family was, Zab did not hesitate. "My father is the best fighter in the family, no question," Judah said. As a kid, I came home fighting all the time. Everyone thought I was a natural. But my father has always been my idol. He raised seven boys. I had no sisters, so I thought that took a lot.
