THE 69 EYES IN CROATIA
When we mention the Finnish rock scene probably the first thing that most people will think of is a band called HIM; the band with success that could be measured with Hanoi Rocks' once. But there are still probably very few of those in Croatia who know that European love metal attraction led by the charismatic Ville Valo today maybe wouldn't be known worldwide if in the early 90s in Helsinki (man today known as) Jyrki 69 didn't gather the band called The 69 Eyes and asked Ville Valo to sing the background vocals.
But, after Stratovarius, Apocalyptica, Children Of Bodom, Nightwish, Sentenced, HIM and some other Finnish bands that have no doubt taken over the European rock scene the time has come to introduce this five to the Croatian audience.
The 69 Eyes is a band that has, from the characteristic garage punk-rock sound from the end of the last century, through the dark industrial version of Blondie's song "Call me", sailed into the European Gothic waters with the album "Wasting The Dawn". Next album "Blessed be" brought the significant success and although they stepped into the Croatian market after releasing the last album "Paris Kills", they reached Zagreb's Gothic and similar parties alongside with the success in other European countries for which our special thanks goes to the DJs that see their potential! They know who they are! ;))
'Till now indubitable the biggest event inside Croatian borders related to The 69 Eyes was official promotion of "Helsinki Vampires" DVD in part of first The 69 Eyes party which happened on 19th of June 2004. in club Mochvara, Zagreb and not less important was The 69 Eyes party held in club Uljanik in Pula on 25th February 2005.
The 69 Eyes' music belongs to the Gothic rock category,
somewhat "softer" and maybe non-typical fraction
of Gothic metal. The sound is expressive and melodious,
and if you decide to follow Jyrki's "Cash-Orbison-Morrison"
balanced vocal it will lead you, as it's written on the
band's official web pages, into the true blue and midnight
shine.
