what's youthful about being 70?

too cool for socializim.

About Me

you don't really want to know all about me. you're just bored... like i am. so lets stop pretending here and get to the meat and potatoes. i'll write some crap. you'll read my crap and then write me back in either a comment, or an email. or maybe an instant message. but you can't show instant messages to people and gloat over your popularity. maybe you could ask me real nice for my address and you could mail me something tangible and real. something that i could squirrel away in a little box that i keep in the attic and one day, when i die, my children will find it and discover some deep dark secret about my past. i like cats.

My Interests

oookay this will be a tad redundant. i'm interested in music, writing, performance arts, mooovies, advertising, pets, the outdoors, tea, jazz houses, comedy, reading books that change the way i think, going out to the odd club, getting my weekend on, having fun and eventually letting my walls of personal and emotional space come crumbling down. OH, and smiles. okay, okay... and sarcasm.

I'd like to meet:

david bowie, so i could ask him what it feels like to prance about in tights and dance with muppets.

Music:

beck, billie holliday, modest mouse, james brown, beastie boys, barbara striesand, k-os, coldplay, radiohead, kasabian, franz ferdinand, donovan, marvin gaye, neil young, the hip, RHCP, stereolab, the new deal, feist, le tigre, miles davis, neil diamond, daft punk, royksopp, st germain, zero 7, sneaker pimps, bjork, fleetwood mac, the greatful dead, steve miller band, fiona apple, bob marley, outkast, snoop dogg, electric six, ella fitzgerald, chet baker, daft punk, propeller heads, sarah harmer, the scorps, ravi shankar, portishead, starsailor, yo la tengo, death cab for cutie, stompin tom connors, weezer, heart, the gossip, aretha franklin, carla bruni, run with the kittens, donna summer, belle & sebastien, blue rodeo, dfa 1979, sigur ros, heart, vanessa mae, nina simone, janis joplin, k-os, gotan project and i'm sure there are more.

Movies:

anything from the 70's-80's with dustin hoffman. from tootsie to le papillon, i love it all. napoleon dynamite, the portrait of dorian grey, hedwig and the angry inch, sollitaire, forest gump, il postino, the last unicorn, gladiator, sith sense, pulp fiction, american history-x, ANY of the muppet movies where jim henson was still alive such as THE DARK CRYSTAL and labyrinth, benny and joon, o brother where art thou, batman (michael keaton is batman, i don't care what anyone says) beetlejuice, tarnation, anything michael moor, v for vendetta, fantasia, ghost in the shell, anything monty python, hiroshima mon amour, any of the thin man movies, battleship potemkin, moonwalker and hmm... any suggestions?

Television:

i don't actually watch t.v which saves hugely on cable bills! that said, i enjoy south park, little britian, ab fab, c.s.i (not miami and not new york!) umm the muppet show, dukes of hazzard, the a-team, cagney and lacey, seinfeld, all in the family (best sitcom ever!) flying circus, barefoot contessa, iron chef, MXC, ren & stimpy, home movies, arrested development, fat actress (i know its not on. i don't care!) intervention, trading spaces (but only when the wife cries) and ads. some of my favourite ads include "the subserviant chicken" and there was a vw cabrio ad done around 98 that sampled a modest mouse song that was killer, the dove "redefine beauty" campaign, the new honda diesel engine ad that took last year's grand prix, there was a tetley ad from a few years back that was really well done, both north american mini campaigns, the fresca billboard campaign from this summer was pretty funny... i'm rambling again.

Books:

siddhartha, inferno, written on the body, ellen foster, the celestine profecy, the celestine vision, i ti ching, the manticore, the robber bride, 1984, animal farm, the edible woman, the da vinci code, waking dreams, the book of joy, the handmaid's tale, hey whipple squeeze this and oranges aren't the only fruit, a million little pieces, zen and the art of motorcycle maintance, odyssey, slugs, there;s a nietzsche reader that i quite enjoy, hegemony or survival, heart of darkness, to kill a mockingbird, any photo compilation books of ansel adams work, applied arts and creative arts magazine as well as wallpaper, o magazine, married to the sea (yes i know its a web comic.) ad busters, salivation army and probably the soon to be released dark crystal manga comics.

Heroes:

i've never been one for hero worship. instead, i will list off qualities that i admire in others that make me want to be more like them. honesty, kindness, steadfastness, generosity, forgiveness, intellect, expression, passion, intensity, knowledge, sense of self, aspirations, drive, sense of commitment and love. and of course, bubbles, ricky and julian.
