Tamar and Talya 'sometime' Klezmer Duo

About Me

Tamar and Talya are archivists who faff about with Klezmer music, one in brum brum and one in weegie toon. Talya administers this profile, so don't tar Tamar with the same brush, ta. Faff Faff Faff, potter potter potter - it's good for you!

My Interests

Pottering. Transitory Fads and Crazes with an all-consuming intensity, then a fizzle and a pop. Always Special Collections and Repositories. The ecstacy of rubbing our eyes and having a stretch. The happiness of making friends with lovely animals on the street (not rodents). A passion for wolves, especially runts of the litter. The satisfaction of writing lists...and the eternal quest for self-improvement.

I'd like to meet:

Fellow Klezmer and Experimental musicians, Nice people, funny people, interesting people (esp.those who draw nice doodles) and friendly Animals/Animal friends, oooh and maybe even some Real people too.

Music:

Too many loves to list properly but Tamar and Talya of course and right now mainly Marissa Nadler, A Silver Mount Zion, Arcade Fire, The Rapture, Michael Nyman, Love is All, Yo-Yo Ma, Steve Reich, Kroke, Vincent Gallo, and I've happily rediscovered Rachel's and Gallon Drunk. Sonic Youth provides the soundtrack to my life, closely followed by various Constellation bands, especially GYBE, and Philip Glass.

Movies:

I watch these films regularly: Wisconsin Death Trip (almost every day, it's a work of beauty); The Hours; Amelie; Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind; Dolls; Sense and Sensibility; Lilya 4ever; The Man with the Movie Camera; Mirror; Buffalo 66; Chungking Express or any Wong Kar Wai (I accidentally bought 2 copies of Fallen Angels on video so if anyone reads this and would like it please say and I'll post it to you); any Pedro Almodovar and, if he keeps it up, any Yimou Zhang - he didn't.

Television:

I watch: ER, University Challenge, Meercat Manor and any athletics or wildlife programmes which is rather a lot of telly actually. Tamar is in to her American programmes too such as Grey's Anatomy and CSI and if I still lived with her so would I be.

Books:

I love art books and enjoy scouring through browsable reference books especially dictionary of quotations, but these are the authors I am loyal to: L.Tolstoy (especially Anna Karenina); Dostoevsky; James Baldwin; Paul Auster; Graham Greene; Jenny Diski; Katherine Mansfield; Isabel Allende (except her recent ones). I'm currently reading a History of Russian Women, vee good.

Heroes:

My devotion is inspired by Horse and Beau ; the innocence of animals; Derartu Tulu; Susan Hiller; Sophie Calle; and my Anna Akhmatova

Men in flip-flops

They make me sick. There are so many floppy blonde haired rugby shirt wearing man-bag carrying boys on campus who are already wearing flip-flops. I feel outraged in the same way as I do when Pari...

Best in Show

I'd just like to point out that if Baby Grace had been entered in Crufts (but she's too modest and shy to court such attention) she quite clearly would have won best in show. Gracie's posh name is Ken...
