easy skankin'
Fishnet Parachutes, once a three piece ska/punk band, now get audiences
jumping, stomping and skankin' in venues across the Midlands, as a
ska/reggae/punk quintet. Along the way, they have been accompanied by an
ever growing fan base of all ages, and have made a strong impression around
the local area, particularly on the Tamworth music scene.
Taking influence from original Jamaican Ska and Two Tone, as well as more
recent ska/punk bands, Fishnet Parachutes have arrived at a fresh, new ska
sound. Throughout the past 18 months the band have played many gigs,
improving their live performances both musically and visually, supporting
the Selecter acoustic, and in the coming months Reel Big Fish. The band have
also experienced competition success, winning 'Guitar Wars Battle of the
Bands' in December 2006, and progressing into the semi finals of the
'Staffordshire University Battle of the Bands', to be held later this year.
From three original members, Fishnet Parachutes is now made up of five close
friends. Bill, Tom, and Tom began by playing punk music, but with the
introduction of Jake on trombone, Robyn on saxophone, and some additional
keyboards, the band developed their sound into the upbeat ska music they
play today. Whilst focusing on moving forward with their music, the band has
always kept a fun element to their songs and live performances.
By attempting to incorporate the best elements of guitar, bass, drums,
saxophone, trombone and keyboards, along with a unique style and stage
presence, Fishnet Parachutes create a contagious atmosphere that gets
audiences to their feet.
