About Me

MyGen Profile Generator................................................... ..Formerly Department Coordinator of News and Current Affairs at BBC Manchester by day. Now Viewer Assistant on ITV1's forthcoming live studio show 'Bingo.' Comedian when she gets the time, about to graduate with and MA and a writer - busy bee! Some third person perspectives, haha:Welsh-born, little blonde nutter, Cat Davies (but usually just confined to my three letter forename), 25, believes in freedom of speech, Veg Korma and the healing powers of cinema. With her comedy heroes being Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson, Dylan Moran, and razor sharp Jo Caulfield, her aim is to hit hard and fast, talking about absolutely anything, even her Attention Deficit Disorder, and leaving little as taboo (not the drink).Starting out as a trained dancer (too many injuries and I love my food, so my arse got bigger, and its a waste of money to throw up a nice meal you've just paid for), then turning pro as a singer (Im not great with being dictated to, and it spelled the end when one Producer said You could be just like Britney Spears. I couldnt marry a yokel and my skins too good). Cat found work as an actress with Theatre In Education companies (the most judgemental audience youll ever have is a bunch of kids!), touring schools across the country. After a few minor TV appearances (so minor that if you blinked or farted, you'd miss me) she cast aside performing in favour of studying a Business Degree and HND in Media both at the same time (more debt, but more drink, so fair compromise I think), and worked behind the camera. After finishing University in Liverpool, Cat waved goodbye to Wales and packed her bags like Dick Whittington (or Dickette) and uprooted to Manchester where she now assaults the world with her presence, and more importantly went back to comedy.Just completed her first novel, Seed/Beautiful, a multi-faceted, pop-culture based urban drama set from 1987-1992 about four of societies mis-shapes. Studying the MA in Creative Writing at Manchester Metropolitan University, and has previously been published in The Student Eye, Parameter Magazine, E-bych online arts journal, Crannog magazine, Canadian magazine Cahoots, Visionary Tongue and 'Down in the Mouth,' a short story, has been published in 'An Anatomy of Chester' by Chester Academic Press. And her proudest achievement - Adieu My Stooge has been chosen by shortstoryradio.com to be voiced by a professional actor and broadcast on the site.Cat also runs RE:Verberate, Manchester's foremost literature night which now runs quarterly in a new venue - Manchester Central Library. RE:Verberate will also be running larger scale events and participating in festivals. www.reverberateliterature.co.uk RE:Verberate received an Arts Council England grant to fund the first twelve months of performances.

My Interests

Comedy, both performing and just spectating, restaurants (everything from Hard Rock Cafe to Pizza Express), time with friends...lots. I love writing, be it poetry, short stories, developing my novel as part of my MA course or comedy. I love words. I also love cats, especially really vocal ones, and Dachsund dogs, but can't have one where i'm living at the moment. I'm really into researching things for my course - aside from my novel and RE:Verberate, I'm looking into podcasting and Hentai for my course aswell. I want to do a PhD over the next few years, depending on funding and make more music. I still write lyrics, but feel like I need to get my bum in gear and really collaborate on some stuff with musicians.

I'd like to meet:

Martin Amis, Jack Nicholson, Dita Von Teese, Joe Ezsterhas, Tony Wilson and Amy Winehouse....weird mix isn't it?! I'd like to meet comedians, writers and people who have something to say.:-)

Music:

Rock stuff mostly, with some indie. I tend to like certain songs rather than worshipping a band completely - like 'laid' by James, 'There She Goes' by The La's, 'Unfinished Sympathy' by Massive Attack and 'Mr Brightside' by The Killers. I like Velvet Revolver, Jane's Addiction, New Order, Iron Maiden, INME, Guns n Roses, Fleetwood Mac (get in!!), Nelly Furtardo, Kate Bush, BOWIE!, The Kooks, MuteMath, THE GOSSIP, Plain White Tee's, Daughtry, Nerina Pallot, Enya, KT Tunstall, Sheryl Crow. I love My Vitriol's first album, but no one's heard of them! :-) Amy Winehouse is brilliant and I'm going to see her in concert in november!

Movies:

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, V for Vendetta, Ghostbusters, Donnie Darko, Goodfellas, Hellraiser, Nightmare on Elm Street series, Shaun of the Dead, Drop Dead Fred, Good Night and Good Luck, Kate and Leopold, the Wedding Date, Trainspotting, Nikita, Aeon Flux, Brotherhood of the Wolf, Dead Babies, Fright Night, Creepshow, Tales from the Crypt, Secretary, Lock Stock, Snatch, Twenty Four Hour Party People, Nine Songs, Irreversible, Etre et Evoir, Subway, Betty Blue, Ring, The Ring (but not The Ring 2 remake!), Rome and Juliet, Don't Look Now, The Entity, Breakfast on Pluto, The Departed, The Last King of Scotland, The Grifters, High Fidelity, Dangerous Liasons, Hard Candy, Perfume, Little Children, Breakfast at Tiffany's, Broken Glass, Sid and Nancy, The Terminator...i could go on for ages!

Television:

Barely watch telly these days! When I do I tend to watch Desperate Housewives and sitcoms. I like Curb Your Enthusiasm, Spaced, The Smoking Room, Lead Balloon, The Comedy Store, Jam, Peep Show, family Guy, American Dad, Beavis and Butthead, Nip/Tuck, Big Train and Black Books.

Books:

Far from the Madding Crowd by Thomas Hardy, Ariel by Sylvia Plath, anything by Sartre, Nabokov and Borroughs. i love A Clockwork Orange. I'm a big fan of graphic novels and love the work of Craig Thompson, Roman Dirge (even though I used to hate it), Jhonen Vasquez and Jeffrey Brown. Check them out, especially Craig Thompson. Everyone should read Martin Amis - either The Rachel Papers or Dead Babies - brilliant, and have a look at a Chuck Palahnuik novel.

Heroes:

Dylan Moran, Jo Caulfield, The Two Ronnies, Dave Allen, The cast of The Comic Strip Presents.....comics, really. Some musicians - I love Nick Drake's sorrow but there's something beautifully optimistic about his music aswell. I'm a big Prince fan - a funky little dude who can talk about everything from diseases and death to sex and money - a legend. Hue Hefner is a god - he's managed to make an empire out of boobs - brilliant. Arthur Rimbaud and Martin Amis's work is brilliant.
