..The project was developed with the aim to stimulate a love for poetry and literature as a whole among inner-city young people. LYA now meet weekly at the Host Media Centre in Chapeltown, where the group was originally started, to study poetry, word power and performance skills. Formed in November 2003, LYA have been performing their brand of hard hitting, fast paced poetry not only locally, but as the first non-Americans in the Brave New Voices competition in Los Angeles. This year, they have been invited back to the Brave New Voices Poetry Slam and Festival in New York, in April 2006... and we need YOUR help in getting them there.

Leeds Young Authors were guest performers in May 2004 at the "Eight Cultivating Creativity"- Youth arts Conference, London. Special Guest and keynote speaker was Right Hon Estelle Morris MP - Minster of state for Arts
