About the SFS:
What is the SFS?
The Spirit Filled Sisterhood is an organization that started in March of 2006, that's focus is uniting and supporting the Christian ladies in the underground. What is the Underground? Any lifestyle that is not 'normally' seen integrated with the Christian faith: punks, rockabilly, hardcore, goth, metal, tattooed, pierced, homeless, bikers, skaters, etc. SFS functions as one organization, which will have several different chapters in cities all over the world.
What is the point of the SFS?
The whole point of the SFS is to organize a group of ladies that help each other grow deeper in Love for God, each other, and their community. It would be nice to sense a spirit of unity as a body of women who live for God. The main principles that the SFS was founded on, include the following:
1)
Unity – we believe that it’s important for ladies to support each other in order to form a functional community. Women have a lot of issues that they face everyday, and it’s important to have some form of communication so we don’t go nuts. ? I mean, lets face it… there are just certain things you feel like you can only tell your girl friends.
2)
Purity – We believe that it’s important to encourage each other to live the life of purity that God has called us out for. It’s important to be constantly striving towards holiness.
3)
Love – We believe that every woman needs to be loved and feel like someone relates to her. We set out to gather a group of women with similar interests and lifestyles, so that we can work through and pray about the battles we face everyday. There is no condemnation in Christ.
4)
Accountability – We believe that in order to correctly encourage each other and grow in the Lord, certain levels of accountability are necessary. Everyone needs someone to call them out on things and make sure they’re doing ok from time to time. In the SFS, chapter members are accountable to each other and their chapter leaders. Chapter leaders are accountable to other chapter leaders in different cities (there is an online forum on the website to aid in this), and the two leaders of the SFS (who are also accountable to each other, and the chapter leaders).
5)
Community – we believe that it’s important to give back to your community (this includes your fellow chapter members), and help out the people around you. Without the aspect of community, the body of Christ would be dry, and eventually fade away. Each person has something to bring to the table, and a body cannot function without it’s different parts.
What are meetings like?
1) Chapter meetings - Generally each chapter meets at least once a month; some chose to meet more frequently. There are two major parts to each meeting:
A) Bible study – your chapter leader will either speak on a topic, or organize someone to speak… followed by discussion and prayer/accountability.
B) Fellowship – this can be anything from going out to dinner, or just hanging out at someone’s house and watching a movie. Just some time to build relationships and hang out.
2) Community service project - in addition to 1+ meetings each month, it is suggested that each chapter does a community service project. This can be anything from volunteering at a local shelter, organizing a benefit show and donating the profit to local people in need, hanging out with and feeding homeless people, collecting books and toys for kids who can’t afford them, or picking up trash on the side of the road. Meet the needs of the community around you, because we are all called to help each other out.
How do I join the SFS?
As if right now, there is no official membership system to the SFS. It’s basically “come one, come allâ€. So technically there really is no way to ‘join’ the SFS besides wanting to be a part of it, and dedicating yourself to attending meetings and helping out.
