Born and raised in the Berkshires, Jay Wood has been playing drums his whole life. He began his studies at the age of 12 under Randy Kaye and Art Perretta. He attended the Jazz Studies program at the University of North Texas. After college, Jay played in variety of musical situations in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, including Edie Brickell, Hillary Tipps, and Catapult. In 1999, he co-founded The Kelvins, an original rock band that garnered considerable success in New England; nominated 3 years in a row for Best Original Rock Band, with Jay nominated as Best Drummer. The Kelvins were the opening act for Living Colour in New Haven, Boston, and North Hampton. Jay has also traveled and played all over New England with the highly successful Jimmy Buffett tribute band Changes in Latitudes, and lots and lots of Reggae/funk. Jay continues to play with various acts in the CT area. You can find him teaching drums at Dynamic Percussion in Manchester, Jazz History at the Hartford Conservatory.
