After relocating The Bleeding Noses from Hobart to Melbourne in 2001, brothers Donovan and Callan Walker formed the harmonious high-energy bogan-power-boogie band The Swedish Magazines in Collingwood January 2002, now notorious in the local scene...if somewhat shit.
In 2004 the band released their debut E.P What Doesn't Kill Me Makes Me Deadly to positive reviews: "The band rip up rock'n'roll with effortless aplomb...and a deep understanding of rhythm & blues..." (Andrew Tijs, Beat Magazine) & from Clem Bastow of Inpress Magazine "... a righteous tornado of party rock." In 2005 they released their debut long-player Eat More Baby, earning a four star Album of the Week in The Age, ("The band rise above the multitudes of guitar-slinging bands by virtue of their single-minded enthusiasm to go hard and have fun..." Jeff Glofeld), and "...file under ball-tearing rock... like that classic brand of footy that the punters love and the AFL is hellbent on eradicating, The Swedes play it hard, a bit rough but straight at the ball..." from Patrick Emery of Beat.
However the album's distribution suffered from negative press due to the licentious cartoon cover artwork (that and the fact that every song was in the key of A and went longer than three minutes) and the band found it impossible to sell the L.P in mainstream outlets without a brown paper bag. They did however gain encouragement for their music by the likes of Aussie luminaries Kim Salmon, Spencer P Jones and Chris Bailey, and their small but devoted fan-base. They've been many line up changes, many, many drummers (think double Spinal Tap) and a whole heap of hoo-har, but a new album (or E.P) is on it's way. Fire from the fringes. The Swedes are dead. Long Live The Swedes.
