BIOGRAPHYMatthew Mei, also known as the Preachers son, is a regular performer at
local venues around the city of Vancouver, brandishing his mix between folk,
rock, hip hop, and the blues.
This SOP (son of a preacher), has done humanitarian in his youth, having
worked with people living in the Downtown East side of Vancouver. It seemed
as though Matthew would have followed in his fathers footsteps, taking four
years at theological education, but decided to take another route. As a
young adult, he has worked various jobs including, master baker, carpet
layer, and strip club manager. Ultimately those career options could not
sway Matthew from his love of music and pursuing a career as a musician.
Incidentally, this decision also saved his father from another heart attack.
Inspired to write music and play guitar by a childhood girlfriend, Matthew
has taken his passion of music to become a self-taught writer, studio
engineer, and producer of his own music. Drawing from his childhood exposure
to folk, gospel, and church music to his adolescent preferences of jazz,
blues and alternative, Matt has developed his sound to blend those musical
influences together. His experiences as a child, to the different jobs held,
have given Matthew a glimpse of the highs and lows of the human experience
which are incorporated into the music that he writes
