Pete Werner is not your typical singer/songwriter. As a student of American music, Pete’s style is informed by the roots and history of rock, country and blues. This multi-instrumentalist continues to find original and unique ways of expressing new music with a traditional feel.Adrian Mack of the Georgia Straight listed Pete’s recent demo release “Salvage†in his personal top 10 records of 2009. Quoting from the review:“Locally made, breathtakingly accomplished country rock living somewhere between the Jayhawks and our own, late Blue Shadows, from a dude I’ve never heard of. Pete Werner, who the hell are you? Marry me!â€Local musician Jean Savoie agrees:“It's one of the best cd’s I've heard in a long time. The songs are great and the arrangements are original, the playing is also very mature, it sounds like they recorded in Nashville with some heavy dudes. It's major league readyâ€With the independent release of the record “Salvageâ€, Pete’s aim is to get himself heard. “I think there are some quality songs on here that seem to reach people on some level of familiarity and are memorable even on the first listen. At the same time we’ve tried to do something really original as well. The goal now is to try to reach as many people as possible who might enjoy these songs.â€Pete’s current project came together rather organically with longtime friends/musicians Del Cowsill on bass and Shane Wilson on the drums. Pete handled the remaining instruments himself. Along with the acoustic and electric guitars, the mandolin, pedal steel and even the banjo helped to inspire new songwriting ideas and led into new directions. The albums worth of material was mixed and partially recorded by Steven Drake of “Odds†fame.
