Influences: Billed as the film for the rave generation, Human Traffic seems to have all the ingredients necessary for it to capture the crucial youth market it is aimed at: drugs, sex, inert 'hipness', furious and inventive filmmaking, a cast of young talented 'Brits', memorable quotes, and hilarious situations. All of which are blended with a 1990s realism that is both believable and identifiable, whilst at the same time distinct and surreal. Add to this a tearfully hip soundtrack assembled by prominent DJ Pete Tong, and featuring artists like C J Bolland, Fat Boy Slim and Orbital and youve got a classic British film in the making baby!! 10/10
A film that proves that Marks still has something to say on the state of todays society. Howard Marks that is. The place is Cardiff, the time is nowish. Trainspotting gave us the down side. Human Traffic gives us the upside in a happy floaty way. Every one just wants a good time and that is what they get. Follow five friends as they spend a weekend at a rave. With great company, loud music (expertly supervised by Pete Tong Radio 1 Music Meister). Jip (John Simm) is going slightly round the bend, the ladies appear to find him less than adequate. So he sets off with his friends to PaRtY! Others are Koop (Shaun Parks) who is convinced his girl (Nicola Reynolds) is trying to hit off with any male that is within a few feet of her. Episodic, we meet reality (Jo Brand), Howard Marks and watch a love story unfold. Provacative, intriguing and a perfect reflection of the zeitgeist of Raves.
For Jip, the endless slacking and McJobbing he endures all week long just kills the time until Friday night arrives. That's when he'll cut loose, meet up with his four best friends and board one raucous rollercoaster that'll take them all on an insane ride straight through to Monday morning. Welcome to the world of Jip, LuLu, Koop, Nina and Moff -- five members of the youthful British modern fast lane that's astonishingly alive with heat, high energy and human traffic. With Jip as our narrator and host, this wildly imaginative, adrenaline-pumped comedy offers a close-up tour of a weekend filled with clubbing, pubbing and partying. Along the way, it also chronicles the ups and downs -- chemical and emotional, hard-luck and high-spirited -- of these five friends ...
