About Me

(Profile edited with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4 . Clean and clear.)
W elcome to DK's Cat Cafe, a virtual music cafe to enjoy music and meet new friends. I'm Uncle DK from Hong Kong. At first I was just making a jukebox for my MSN buddies but now I feel it's good to share with the public .
Don't be a stranger and always welcome to meet new friends by introducing yourselves in comments with stuffs you love like pictures, music, videos or web sites. You may have attractive profile pictures but still need some contents for new friends with similar interests. But please don't be too explicit or you'll be mistaken as phishers or spammers. A simple tutorial is in my picture album. (Tutorial)
Please go to the Music List and visit our favorite artists. Also take a look at the Unsigned/DIY artist group to discover talents of the future or potential partners in music.
I will keep on looking for new stuffs to share with my blog. And I will select interesting stuffs in the posts and keep them in the blog or music list. Feel free to revisit for new friends too! (=^_^=)

Anyone who love alternative/indie music, cats or anything cute and peaceful

Now On Cat Cafe (June 22~August 10)

W ell well at last got the time to write a new blog. I'll tell you the reason later. (=^ ^=)

D ue to the population problem of the Top Friend list, I've moved some friends to the Special Friend List on the left margin. Go check it and tell me if I missed anything. Those cafe friends with special talents or working on arts can be there too. Just send me a message and show your works.

Muisc Just Added

Flamingo Crash (Electroclash/Disco Punk, Alternative Rock) - Modern Australian indie signed with a Japanese Label. (?)

The Postmarks (Pop, Neo Acoustic) - I think they can be the new successor of Saint Etienne and Club 8. Yeah their world is very girlish...

Balkan Beat Box (Hip-hop, World Music) - New York indie fusing up Middle East music and American tunes with the hip-hop rap. Their album "Nu-med" can indeed become the name of a new genre. Nu-med = New Middle East or New Mediterranean. But the best is their live show. I mean the supporting bellydance. ;P

Battle (Alternative Rock, Electroclash) - Very organic electroclash music for they try to play the electronic sound with rock instruments. By hands, not the computers.

Peter, Bjorn and John (Pop) - Why the eclectic pop from Sweden(and Norway too) is always so easy listening and almost sing into our subconsciouness?

Hot Chip (Electronic, Dance) - Sometimes good to have some major things that we all know. Hot Chip always try hard to do something new with the 70's electronic sound.

Get Him Eat Him (Power Pop, Alternative Rock) - They know the pop. I met them in the Indiefeed Podcast.

Trans-Siberian Orchestra (Progressive Rock, Neo Classical) - I think my friend Diana will love this. Rock band playing an orchestra. But their space might have been hacked because they haven't logged in for long. (=_=)"

Dreamy (Bossa Nova, Pop) - The Latin Jazz sound of Bossa Nova now comes with a sweet girlish vocal. So it's Sweden again you know they will be good. Thx for finding me. (^_^)

Girls United (Experimental, Electronic) - New anti-pop project from our German friend Jayrope the behavioral artist. Yet another anti-war and anti-republican and anti-MySpace move. Jayrope you're the boss. Meow. (=^ ^=)

Baron Criminel (Electronic, Tropical) - Trance from Denmark mixed with the Tropical dance beat from Haiti. Thx for finding me.

Friends' Favorite :

Club 8 (Pop, Neo Acoustic) - Our friendly indie artist Zhong Chi 's favorite. She told me this when I once plugged their song here. Ah sweet Sweden again! (^_^)

The Mars Volta (Emo/Punk, Progressive Rock) - The third pick of Mike from Hong Kong. Maybe one of the best rock group of the decade. But don't know if they love being called Emo any more. Well the cults of Emo always want to catch the world's attention by showing something really brilliant with an attitude of self-destruction, telling you "love me or I'll die before your eyes". And the chaos of fashions+drugs go on... (Mike's share of a live video clip)

Mars Volta - Roulette Dares

Add to My Profile | More Videos

Jelly Jazz (Funk, Jazz, Dub) - Our friend Yin once plugged their song in her space. This is actually not a band but live gigs project of DJ's live jamming with different jazz bands. Yin's blog write mostly about music too. And very surprised to know she can play the cello and she's been in Bali researching ancient tribal music... Maybe she's the artistic version of Indiana Jones. (?)

Rachel Loy (Folk Rock) - Cutie Super Lulu 's second pick. She's still plugging the song Love Me Too Much in her space. Ah getting trouble from some wierd guys digging too hard? lol

Unsigned Artists :

Rope (Experimental, Electronic, Germany) - Jayrope the Boss's early project. He always works with different musicians to create atmospheric and mind-provoking music with an anti-pop attitude.

James Warner Prophecies (Alternative Rock, Neo Folk, UK) - My UK friend Sian aka Acoustic Soul Folk once shared the stage with them. They rock with the flutes and mandolins.

Whole Nine Yards (Hard-heavy, Hong Kong) - Please note this is a promotional space. For more songs go to their top friend list and visit their other pages.

DIY Friends :

Acoustic Soul Folk (Acoustic, Folk, UK) - My friend Sian's solo project. She began playing gigs now and congrats! (=^ ^=)

Zealot Bulletin (Grunge Rock, Malaysia) - Our designer friend Junnu 's band. Ah the good old days of garage sound!

Proof of Concept (Electronic, Laptop) - Intrumental DIY electronica from UK. Thx for finding me. (^_^)

Special :

TokyoPop TV - Online Manga TV

Ariellah (US) - Gothic Dancer

The What's Up

L ast week the unsigned(and refuse to be signed) band The Divine Madness got a song featured in the online TV Manga Bizenghast . The band has been here with us for 2 months and very glad to see the indies keep on trying hard.

Check the MySpace TV Manga("Comics") on TokyoPop TV . An alternative way to enjoy comics online. I found the Western comics are now fusing with the oriental Manga. And why most gal comics are the Gothic things...

O kay must tell you guys what I've been busy for these days. It's the Gothic again. I've been digging for the Gothic bellydance . lol

It all started when the hints showed up that the Goth cult is dying in UK. (The first generations of Goth are now at the age of around 40!) Some Goth begin saving the scene by drawing more attention and new comers("baby bats") with the Gothic Bellydance. As promoted it's "beauty in darkness" and not self-destruction. But the shows are still new and the budget is low. Still okay for the dancers are mostly beautiful and you'll forget the stage setting. ("Empty?")

Coming up is the mesmerizing dance from my new idol Ariellah . Gal come cheer up the vampires. ;P (Ariellah's MySpace)

And most lovely is that she was a bit shy on stage! ^o^

(And it was so crowded that I had to forget the seat and stood up for a better view of Ariellah.)

And the first Gothic Bellydance performance was believed to take place in 2004 New York city by Jeniviva . (Jeniviva on YouTube)

Well actually the traditional bellydancers are very skillful. Take a look on Rania , one of the famous professionals today. (Rania on YouTube)

(I know you guys wanna kill me for wasting life watching bellydance. But you can see there are some Emo and Goth friends here I'm just doing some research in the name of science! lol )

MV of Choice

A typhoon is in Hong Kong today and probably moving on to Saturday too. Staying at home and dream of Sweden again. My personal choice of the soft and eclectic sound. Saturday Waits by Loney, Dear .
