Andy Roda | The Currents Of Life
Andy Roda a child prodigy, discovered at 5 years old he could play and sing any song on the piano, by simply imitating what he heard on the radio. The son of two Filippino adventurers, was born and raised in Copenhagen Denmark, where he honed his craft by performing weekly in church or at any of the local events. It was during a talent show, it became apparent to him, it was more than just fun. “I still recall the first song I wrote, when I was about 8. Although childish, it was around this time I made the clear decision to swap out my initial dream of becoming an airline pilot, to becoming a world famous artist!â€, he explains humorously. While still in school, Andy was eventually discovered and signed to Virgin Records, after a demo tape of his rotated locally, and found its way to the desk of the managing director.
Andy Roda’s debut album entitled “DISH†was released in 1999, and earned wide national acclaim, generating 3 hit singles, a “Best New Artist†nomination, and firmly established him as a rising star in his native Denmark. He embarked on a nationwide tour, which culminated in a date opening for the Backstreet Boys, and Emma Bunton of the Spice Girls. Plans for Andy’s second album ensued, but something seemed to be missing for Andy. His music was taking on a more global feel, so with the blessing of Virgin Records, Andy relocated to New York City, where he soon after found himself working with many top writers and producers, such as Gary Haase (Celine Dion, Chaka Khan, Jessica Simpson) and Rob Fusari (Beyonce).
Almost immediately after, Andy appeared on national TV, in the legendary Ed McMahon’s “Next Big Star (spin off to “Star Searchâ€) earning a runner up honors in the grand finale. He was also chosen to perform at the annual Michael Awards, held in the world famous Manhattan Center, following the footsteps of Brian McKnight and Lenny Kravitz. Andy credits "the Sugarbarâ€, a famous venue in Manhattan, his favorite musical playground where he was schooled by the very best. Here he became friends with the owners, the legendary hitmakers Ashford & Simpson (Ain’t No Mountain High Enough, I’m Every Woman, Solid), who have hosted numerous of his showcases, after he impressed them at one of their much-talked-about open mic nights. Shortly after Andy became the highlighted artist at an Alicia Keys event, and the opening act for r’n’b singer Jon B. Andy continues to perform in New York, and around the World, while remaining focused on his own upcoming album, aimed at a world wide release in 2008.
It is with this focus and preparation, while on a trip to the Philippines, Andy met with Star Records (ABS-CBN - the biggest entertainment network in the country) who made Andy the only artist to have 3 cuts on the successful "SupahDance" album, which in less than 3 months has reached Gold status in the Philippines alone. He wrote and produced a sexy new joint for Vina Morales, a bright Star in the Philippines and Asia, entitled “Real Manâ€, an upbeat electro-pop tune called "Dancing Naked" the Kitty Girls, and his own dancehall inspired feel-good “Shake Yo Thang†became a sure hit!
“ASK AND IT IS GIVEN†is Andy’s favorite quote. “The one thing I want to give to others, besides a good feeling from my music, is the knowing that Source has heard our requests, and that the Currents Of Life WILL carry us wherever we want to go. We just have to sit back, relax and enjoy the ride!â€
