My Interests

I grew up on Vancouver Island in the best little town in Canada, Port Alberni. I have been in the music biz on one level or another for 17 years now and only last year did we take it to the next level and develope a website to promote ourselves and all our friends bands here in Calgary.Chris, Bob and myself were trying to find a better way for musicians to network and promote themselves because the local media print is always wrong and out dated. And to be honest we were sick and tired of the lack of local live music coverage our media sources here in town were giving us. Sure you get some coverage if your really big here but even that isn't much. No one was covering the smaller bands, the jams etc and that's the life blood of our local live music scene. Whether you are an A room Band, a C room band, just a jammer, whatever, we felt everyone needed and deserved more recognition than they are getting which is pretty much nothing. We thought if we start really showcasing as many local bands, no matter what their status as a band was, as possible then we could strengthen our local scene tremendously and in turn maybe more and more musicians will be able to get paying gigs. And you know what? It's actually working. Better than we ever hoped and we aren't even a year old yet. It tells us this type of site is both wanted and needed. We hope we can be around for many more years to come and we are having a ball watching the website grow each and every day.Ok, so the 3 of us, myself, Chris & Bob, sat down and combined everything we liked in a website and we created The Musicians Lounge.com. As I said we are growing very quickly as each month passes and we are already seeing some huge results from the self networking and promoting. As any unsigned band or musician can attest to, we don't have alot of money to pour into a website. Every dime we make goes back into the show or new gear or recording time etc so we thought why not give everyone a FREE website where they can pretty much have all the features as their own independent website. We decided to get the biggest and best server we could find so we could have the capabilities to do this as well we can host, for free, any website that our members have. This way they don't have to pay a server company and can put what little money they make back into their projects. We will even build a website for a member and of course we don't charge a dime.In The Musicians Lounge.com we give the members their own forum to review their gigs, jams etc and just also to chat with all their friends, family, fans etc. We really believe that it's important, no critical, for any band or musician to have personal interaction with their fans. Afterall, the fans are why we do this and the only reason we can continue playing live. Without them we are nothing, we owe them everything and we should never forget that. We also give our members their own photo gallery to run where they can update their pics whenever they want. People read the website and see the pics and then go see a jam or a gig. Musicians see all the new jam listings, see new jams and even see their pics from the jam online It blows our freakin minds at just how well this is really working. It really is turning into a great community. We love what we do. We have a blast getting to go see so many new, incredibly talented bands and for the 3 of us, that's payment enough. I have never been married and really can't say I'm all that dissapointed about that but I do have 2 beautiful daughters who are now teens so I guess it's payback time for all the hell I put my parents through in school! My weakness' in life are good food, my friends, music, beer and guitars. That's it in a nutshell now get the fuck off this profile and go listen to the music of the people in My Friends list, they are worth the visit! And remember, support your local live entertainment scene! CHEERS!!
