When former Waterboy Mike Scott wrote "Been a long way to the light" he could not have known how those words would become the underpin to this latest chapter of the journey of these musical comrades.
More used to belting out the Zeppelin incantation "Been a long time since I Rock 'n Rolled" former Trogg & the Mad Doggs Frontman Dave Crowe & and Bassist Damian Walsh found inspiration in the celtic folk-rock of Scotts' visionary wide-screen writing. The pair began to plough the rich vein of this new direction with the formation in March 2006 of their homage to the earthy honesty of this world-weary interpreter, naming their new band "Long Way to the Light".
Following the succesful recruitment of a third core member, jazzmondous guitarist Kev Fitch, the band went on to expand into two distinct units: a UK lineup with new boy Kev Roby on drums/percussion, and a European touring band featuring Alex Beck on 2nd guitar, and Gernot Beck on drums/percussion.For those of you wondering if the former Mad Dogg boys have found home-made spiritualism & been born again - then rest assured; they've simply found themselves in the beauty & passion of countless balladeers & troubadours who have set out to impact on an audience not with the power of their amplifiers but with the power of their conviction and the beauty of their music. (Although by our own admission we are just occasionally a wee bit loud too!)Gone is the frenetic balls-out mayhem of Trogg & the Mad Doggs, here instead is a new palette of songs about passion, about love, about loss & about life itself. You can all still expect to be surprised & amazed by the variation in the new bands setlist, whilst never quite knowing what will happen next - its just that when Dave belts out " I've been travelling to this place since the day I was born" you'll all know he means every word of it...
It has indeed been a Long Way to the Light.
