About Me

Overview:
Working around the world with advertising agencies, production companies, film, TV, online, anyone creative in the visual domain looking for music.
Music Styles:
I work exclusively with artists from alternative/independent labels and unsigned artists. I help guide them towards getting their music onto soundtracks on visual media. This will strengthen them, and help them stay independent.
I do not work on any one genre or style of music - my idea is to build a reportoire of labels and composers that can represent a complete music catalogue.
Why be Different:
Every Ying has a Yang - I also help creative people in visual media to find inspirations and ideas from new or unheard of artists and labels.
The idea is to marry great music to great films - my input is as creative as the client dares to go. The most important thing is to nail the job, on time, on budget...
Philosophies:
In regards to what I do, I believe in being non-elitist, non-conformist and not about what's fashionable and ultimately disposable.
My clients use me because they know this is more than just a business for me - I really enjoy working towards the perfect marriage of sound and vision.
Background:
My background has been in indie music. For 8 years I hosted The Electric Cafe, a weekly show on a UK indie radio station, my brief to give exposure to music and new artists that wouldn't normally get heard on the airwaves.
Through this episode in my life, I learnt continuously about new labels and artists - I had a great time searching off the beaten track for all my show's content, and helping to support some great bands and music.
The Electric Cafe was unashamed to play 2 hours weekly of unknown music. It did not seek to be elitist, so we made many interviews with artists who could best explain what and why they chose the indie path. The best way to gain support for what you do is to open it up to new minds.
Neither did The Electric Cafe seek to treat any music or genre as a token 'cool' flavour of the month. I am definitely against that, and would play something because it had a place on the show and moved me in some way.
Am always searching for new musical delights to show to creatives in film and visuals...

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Anyone who is doing something different.

Indie labels, indie artists of all descriptions.

Musicians who feel they are doing something new but not being heard. Bedroom bands/unsigned artists/underdogs...

Yes, underdogs.

Music:

The music that is my world at the moment is always from the bands I represent. That's the music I eat, sleep and breathe - because that's the music I have chosen to believe in.

Movies:

Some of my favourite films are the ones I worked on!
Here are a couple of examples of jobs I music supervised...
T-Mobile 'Human Wave' Spot
Director's Feedback: Oops, he did it again!
Mercedes Benz A-Class Spot
Feedback: Working with Dr. Alick on this Mercedes spot was very stimulating and efficient at the same time. He offered in first person at a meeting to send us some tracks that could work. Instantly he pulled out from his first aid kit some very interesting ideas from some artists he represents showing a total understanding of the director's needs.
Once in his clinic he completed his suggestions with more than ten tracks of a very good quality. In the end we decided to go with the very first piece he offered us at the meeting with which we fell in love right away.
The piece adds to the commercial in a way that is very hard for us to imagine the spot with any other music. It almost feels that there is an established dialogue between the music and the car in the very end of the piece.
We would also like to point out that negotiations and the paper work needed to incorporate the music in the commercial were fast and painless.
Panasonic Spot
Director's Feedback: I worked with Alick on a job for Panasonic. I had a clear idea of what music I wanted and was briefing a composer to make this, but at the same time I briefed Alick.
It was a good opportunity to see what he could do and I always keep an open mind, so was ready for possible interesting alternatives, he could come up with.
He was extremely efficient, getting me 10+ tracks very quickly, with more following.
When, at the last moment, the agency refused the composed music, we went back to Alick, who, in a very tight timing, managed to help out.
In the end we found a song, that both agency and client were very happy with.
Sony Playstation Portable Spot
Producer's Feedback: Daniel, the director of the latest SONY PS3 spot, had a look at the music you gave us and instantly found exactly what he was looking for: an entertaining track which breaks the aggressiveness of the images and underlines the agility of Rafa Nadal.
Thanks for the easy and quick handling. Looking forward to more co operations!
T-Mobile Spot
Director's Feedback: Alick is the man! He's quick, sharp and efficient. I sent him a brief on what type of music I was searching for and within days he had found me this beautiful song that pushed the spot right where it belonged. I highly recommend him.
Tele2 Comviq Spot
Client's Feedback: We don't want to recommend Retox to anyone. Alick is fast as lightning, highly professional and a pleasure to work with - too damn good to share!
Comix Spot
Director's Feedback: Alick found great music for the film which I would never have found myself.

Television:
