About Me

Dj Smudge (aka El Luchador), born as Lucas James Brown on the outskirt swamplands of an island just west of Papa New Guinea, where he lived in extreme hardship that would later be hauntingly present in his music. Working on the seas and rivers of Central Asia and South America in merchant ships, Smudge made his way to the states. As a product of the 80's and a passionate fan of music from all genres, Smudge started collecting records in his early teens. He was later spotted living and spinning in the Maryland and Washington DC area. It's been over a decade since Smudge first blessed the decks for a crowd at an ESA event in Baltimore MD.
Known well in the underground scene and building a reputation for often spinning everything under the sun... From old school Hip-hop to banging House music, from Swing to Soul, from Baile Funk to Rock, including gems from the 70's and 80's, Baltimore Club, Electro and more. Influenced by some of the greats, Dj Smudge thanks Stacey Kidd, Ron Hardy, Larry Levan, Mr. Scruff, Sam "the man" Burns and Fantastic Plastic Machine to name a few.
Dj Smudge has taken his music far past those early days of mosquito bites and crocodile wrestling in the swamplands. Recent visits to NYC, London, San Francisco, B-More, Chicago, San Diego, LA, Portland and Phoenix as well as multiple trips to hot spots in Japan have all further secured Smudge a properly positioned place in the underground Dj circuit as a well respected "jack of all trades" and a "keeper of the funk". In the summer of 2007 Smudge met up with Soohan and formed the production duo NiteCourt. Since then he has been featured on several bigtime blogs including Discobelle, Bigstereo and Palmsout Sound. He currently holds a residence at the world-reknown Sonar nightclub in Baltimore, Maryland as well as frequent collaborations with RockCandy Productions in Washington DC, and ESA Productions in San Diego.Available now are mix CDs of Dj Smudge's "Hong Kong to Vegas", a refreshing sound of House music, as well as "Sound Matters, Vol 2", a wide range mix of multi-genre style stuff that's sure to blow your mind. The newest mix is entitled "Shake n Pop" and is another example of Smudges' ability to seemlessly mix genres and styles. These CDs are only for the mature listeners. With all that said, ESA Productions proudly presents: *****************Dj Smudge!****** PLEASE DOWNLOAD--do the right click 'save as' option for best results

My Interests

"Back then, you couldn't adjust the speeds. You had to catch it at the right moment. There was no room for error. And you couldn't play catch up. You couldn't touch the turntables. I had Thorens, and you couldn't do that on Thorens. All you had to do was start at the right moment. Nobody mixed like me. Nobody was willing to hang out that long. Because if you hang out that long, the chances of mistakes are that much greater. But to me it was second nature. I did it like I walk my dog."--Francis Grasso
