Lost in the 80's

About Me

..
Some Facts to Consider.....
If everyone in the world adopted the Western lifestyle, we would need five earths to support us.
Your flash new kicks were probably made in a sweat shop in South East Asia by someone (most likely a woman or a child) earning less than US ten cents an hour.
The standard of living you enjoy is only maintained because most of the world's population is poor and oppressed, sad but true.
Now im no bleeding heart, tree hugging lefty, far from it, but It certainly puts day to day Western living in perspective.
Be politically aware! Enrol to vote! There are places in the world where people die for this right.
Current Issues that keep me up some nights......
Genocide in Darfur

Diminished press freedom and freedom of speech in Russia
The war on Terror
Iranian nuclear ambitions
Famine in North Korea, a Nuclear capable state
The rise of islamic fundamentalism
Global Warming

My Interests

Politics, Philosophy, current affairs, International Relations, photography, retro furniture & fittings, popular culture, Producing cheesy short films.

Brisvegas: Ironic yet affectionate term for the city of Brisbane, Australia (population nearing 1.7 million these days). It's also a city a lot of people - especially southerners - like to rag. There's nothing hick-like about this town. Perhaps there was in the Sir Joh era (circa 1980s), but certainly not anymore. The term "Brisvegas" originated as an ironic association with Las Vegas, to pay out on Brissy's less-than-perfect nightlife scene and perhaps its general "things to do" factor (at the time). And yet, while meant to be an insult initially, recently Brisbanites have "reclaimed" the word, of sorts, as an endearing term for a city that, while not exactly being "where it's at" in any sense of the word, is still a pretty cool place to live (Urban Dictionary)

I'd like to meet:

Individuals who enjoy life and all it has to offer.

People interested in Breaks and Drum n Bass, Retro furniture, Politics, Philosophy, Photography, Contemporary Art, Architecture, or Popular Culture generally.

I cant stand people who are shallow or obsessed with the 'scene'......go play in traffic.

We will all be old and fat one day, and our kids will just laugh when we try to tell them we were 'cool'.
