In Memory of Dime: 08 December 2004 - Five people were shot dead, including guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott, after a gunman jumped on stage during a crowded heavy metal concert in Columbus, Ohio and opened fire, local media reported on Thursday. Columbus television network NBC4 reported that Nathan Gale, 25, stepped on stage at the Alrosa Villa nightclub late Wednesday and began shooting at the band, Damageplan, which includes former members of the Grammy-nominated heavy metal group PANTERA , killing Abbott, 38. He then reportedly shot and killed another member of the band and started firing into the crowd before being shot dead by a police officer who had been near the club at the time of the shooting. The other slain band member's name was not released. A witness told NBC4 that the gunman, wearing a hockey jersey and a hooded sweatshirt, "came on stage, from the back, like he knew what he was doing, and went straight to Dimebag Darrell immediately." The network said the guitartist was shot at point-blank range.
