a spooky man named me

About Me

I was born in Gainesville, Florida, but I never actually lived there. My youth, of course, was misspent, an amalgam of Transformers, Star Wars, badly animated Japanese cartoons and karate classes. I met my wife in my fourth year of college, before she was my wife. I moved to California after graduation, where I became a stage and screen actor, whittling myself down to two degrees from Kevin Bacon. Currently I am a Flash developer who moonlights as a longform improvisational artiste. I bike to work, and I have a Wii.

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

Gene Wilder. David Lynch. Stanley Kubrick. Shigeru Miyamoto. Jim Henson. Myself, at age 15. My wife, at age 80.

Music:

L.S.G. They Might Be Giants. Akira Yamaoka. Orbital. Aphex Twin. Infected Mushroom. Captain Jack. Portishead. Gusgus. Boards of Canada.

Movies:

The Shining. Session 9. Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (original). Mulholland Drive. Lost Highway. The Ring. Paperhouse. The Emperor's New Groove.

Television:

Mystery Science Theater 3000. Wonder Showzen. Robot Chicken. Trigun. Inuyasha. America's Funniest Home Videos.

My Blog

Reformat

Doing Hit and Run has taught me a lot about musical improv, of course, but I've also learned a fair amount about myself in the process.HNR recently picked up a weekly performance slot at an upscale co...

Thoughts on Going Blue

My work as of late has yet to abate (rhyme!); in fact, if anything, it's picked up. Our second HNR show with the new format was a week and a half ago. Something I've discovered about playing at the Ca...

Epic

To give you an idea of how busy I've been lately: I slept in until 11am every day of this past three day weekend. But the work is paying off.Hit and Run had its first two-hour show on Saturday evening...

Guidance

Our show last night was... interesting. We've had better shows, but we've definitely had much worse, and doing this show opened my eyes to some things I think we need to do to move forward. Our sugge...

Wait Your Turn

Last night's HNR rehearsal was a blast. We got loads of stuff done, and we all came out of it very excited. It felt much longer than two hours, and it was still over too quickly. After some business ...

Keeping Busy

It's been an eventful few weeks for the group. We had two shows last weekend on top of rehearsal, and both of those shows followed our "new" format, which I'll go into in a bit. We're all working very...

Speedbumps and Bifocals

After last week's stellar show, I almost expected our next performance to be not quite as good. The sophomore show blues seem to extend beyond scripted theater into improvisational theater.I just wasn...

A Rousing Success

Okay, so I realized the crosspost notification was silly, because the only thing I ever post here is musical improv stuff. So I won't be doing that any more. --We did it.Hit and Run opened last night ...

CP: All Together Now

Crossposted from Moments in Song--At rehearsal last night, we tried something we hadn't attempted before (on purpose anyway). Something we do as a regular warmup is the Beastie Boys rap, which goes li...
