The Treatment you've been waiting for...

About Me

Music… What does Music mean to you? This Jackson State University alumnus, defines music as a “worldly way of expression,” through the means of a universal language. Lipsey got first hand experience with this theory while serving his country in the United States Air Force. As he traveled the world, he made a conscious effort to interact with the local music scenes by collaborating with the local artists of the host nations, scoring a big collaboration in South Korea with Kim Woo Yong of REX.
Lipsey is a native of Canton, Mississippi, where he was raised by his mother in a single parent home. He began this musical journey in the church’s youth choir at the age of four. By age fourteen, he had become one of the leading soloists in the recording choir, The Canton Gospel Soul Children. Lipsey studied music from elementary through high school, but many don’t know that it was not his sole love. He also lettered in football and track. “Don’t get it twisted… I love music, but I LOVE football. I wanted to play pro ball, but my knees filed for a divorce. LOL”
Lipsey’s career shifted gears when he met his mentor and legendary producer/engineer, Wolf Stephenson. His credits range from writing, producing, engineering, to marketing and video directing, in the genres of gospel, R&B/soul, blues, hip-hop, and rock. Though Lipsey has dawned many hats throughout his music career, songwriting is his preference. “I love making enjoyable music. There was nothing more fulfilling than me hearing Floyd Taylor, “We’re Going Steppin” through my apartment walls. One day my neighbors played it 8 times in a row, not knowing the writer/producer lived next door.” He studies artists like Marvin Gaye, Curtis Mayfield, Prince, R. Kelly and Sade to name a few. “I learned at an early age that songwriting is about emotions and feel, not so much about vocal acrobatics.” Lipsey has worked with Cassie Bonner (Love Jones soundtrack), Vick Allen (of the Canton Spirituals), David Sea (of the Temptations), Nonchalant, Christion, Shirley Brown, The Mississippi Mass Choir, Eddie Ruth Bradford, George Jackson (penned “Old Time Rock and Roll”), and Frederick Knight (penned “Ring My Bell”). These are just some of the many which include Grammy, Stellar, Billoard, Platinum, and Gold awards. Some of Lipsey’s recent works include: “Impatient” performed by Ole Sipp, “She’s So Cruel” by Waldoxy artist, Larome Powers and “We’re Going Steppin” by Malaco artist, Floyd Taylor. “We’re Going Steppin” was nominated for SINGLE OF THE YEAR at the 2006 Jackson Music Awards.
Lipsey has been behind the scene learning the business and perfecting his craft. His sound combines the flow of hip-hop, the dynamics of jazz, the stories of blues and the soul of gospel. And every now and then, you’ll hear an edgy-energetic rock flavor. His lyrics, metaphoric and thought-full, paint the pictures, enabling listeners to see the story. Definitely take note of this budding artist and his debut project: THE TREATMENT...
