Slim and Polo of GTC (Grind Time Central) started out their career in a group of about ten guys. Time and hard work proved to be too much for the other eight members. Slim and Polo formed GTC and started working on their first project as a duo, “We Got Tracks Vol. 1”. As a group, early Outkast influenced them, mainly because their styles were different but they blended so well and they saw similarities between themselves and Outkast.Slim aka Michael Sloan has been around music his whole life. From a very young age, his family and friends were always complimenting him on his ability to flow. The positive reinforcement was all he needed to decide to pursue his music. From then on he’s been putting all his time and energy into perfecting his craft.One of his first influences was his older brother, whom he watched write and rap with his click “ The G Force”. Some of his other influences include of course Outkaast as well as Jay-Z and the Wu-Tang Clan. Slim will tell you “they all have different styles, so I soaked up the best of each and developed a style all my own”.Slim’s music stands out because unlike most of the dope boy music out there that talks about girls, money and cars, he has fun with his music, he can sing and rap and the combination of the two is so refreshing.Polo aka Gamoane Allen was curious from a young age about Hip-Hop. During the summer his friends would gather at his house for what they called the “Round Table” and would freestyle all night, every night. One day while on the computer, he came across an acid recording program and downloaded Jay-Z’s Takeover beat and delivered his first rap. He was 17 and it wasn’t very good, but with time and practice he has developed into a lyricist.When asked who his influences are, Polo says, “ Since I’m coming up in the Bling era, money is my biggest influence. My creativity isn’t limited because of the paper chase, it just intensifies it. I like the competition in the game today and I’m just waiting for the recognition and did I say, the money?”Polo believes in himself as an artist and his confidence really shows, whether he’s in the booth, on stage or in the street.
