Polo was born Gamoane Allen in Dayton,Ohio in 1984.The Dayton native grew up the middle child in his family.Music was always apart of his life coming up,his older brother was an area DJ(DJ Taz a.k.a. Chief Rocca),and that was how he got a direct connection to rap/hip-hop.He says "I remember sittin' in the house about 6 or 7 years old,listening to Black Sheep,Das FX,Tribe Called Quest,Leaders of the New School,and all that west coast gangsta shit.Though his love for the music was simply listening and singing along rap songs was never an option.The option had been weighed when he moved to a new neghborhood and met Micheal "Slim" Sloan,who had been only about 12, 13 years old but rapping for years.They would freestyle in his parents garage while recording drinking and smoking.Polo has always said "That's not when I really started rappin' but we came up with a song,and it was about chicks and cash,and as the song says that was it." So as the years pass like almost every other kid his passion switched from sports to clothes to girls to money to rap or atleast at his high school."First off I went to Trotwood,I'm a Trotwood nigga so what,but I'll tell you this only a lame would tell you them LSJ(Lamar Shay Jeans)Boys didn't run the school.My brotha form anotha Shawn Juan had started actually rappin' wit Slim at first ,but he had fashion plans,so Polo took to the music like an addict.whenever they would drop a couple of songs,atleast two or three of em' were solo.When asked what's different about his music he says"I'm not afraid for people to not like my music,it's just expression,my expression,I could be doin' my Mr.Swaggadousis,or my DPS(Dead poet's Society),or I could be the rap sun,its only one so how can anybody else shine,or I could just be the thoroughbred feel me.So with that being said I'm just a product of my environment till I'm a product in my environment."
