Sounds Like: * * * This iconoclastic group from Toulouse has one foot in the rock camp, or better still, loosely planted with the post-rockers (God Speed You Black Emperor and Tortoise but thats it, only them) and the other in the improvised-experimental camp. Ueh has joyously meandered in Europe and the States via the hand-luggage of those spearheads of Japanese psychedelics, Acid Mothers Temple. * * * Ueh has signed two albums to date with this label: the eponymous "Ueh" (2 CD, M for music and I for improvisations, two aspects of their work 2002, from AMT), and "Pataphysical Overdrive To My Cosmos" (a split album with Makoto Kawabata appeared in 2004). A collage of live recordings is waited for winter 2006 on AMT. * * * From the alliance of their two influences rock and improvisation Ueh have integrated into their compositions ideal structures as well as some big losses of control. These currents merging make for some interesting on-stage viewing. * * * Ueh is also the sum of its members, involved in diverse projects. Thus Frederic Jean is none other than the founder of Hyperclean (happy off-beat pop), Jean Martial Guilhem experiments rock in International Hyper Rythmique, Benjamin Glibert tries his masterly hand at electro-acoustic and jazz compositions... * * * We work on the basis of propositions coming from each of us, which we develop in rehearsals, by collage, by desire, by the urge to create particular ambiances, to develop certain soundscapes. We dont necessarily seek to stick to a pre-defined style, but prefer to let ourselves be carried by what happens within each piece. The structures are quite simple and elastic, changing and changeable, they can evolve from one concert to the next, or during a single performance. * * * Listening is pretty fundamental, because it allows us to keep our music alive and reactive. Our sound is almost fragile because of this the melodies and structures are like threads, and on stage the sound gets progressively rockier, tactile, affirming. (merci à Anna Knight)
