About Me

The Whistlestops are two Englishmen and two Australians living in Brisbane playing the finest skiffle pop since 1964.“Boasting sunny melodies, and more than a few lyrics akin to those penned by one Alex Turner of Arctic Monkeys mega-fame, come Bris-Brits The Whistlestops. Their self-titled EP captures a feverish skiffle-pop beat packed with good times, good people and a few bevvies along the way. The Boy With Everything and Taj Mahal are skip-hop jive-inducing tunes featuring almost obligatory Whoa-ohs and La Las that cement the quartet.s original Mod stylings. In fact, it.s so incredibly authentic it.s almost criminal. The highlight in this collection of songs is the voice and lyrics of Justin Stokes, who sings of average Brisbane life in an affectionate, yet critical manner that's sure to resonate with any self-respecting culture-vulture. Tales of Westfield Shoppingtowns, nights at the Troubadour and excessive mobile phone use are all covered, making The Whistlestops definitely the closest thing Brisbane will ever come to having our own Arctic Monkeys.”Jack Langridge - Rave Magazine
