So,what kinda stuff do I like? Cool stuff like karaoke, cruiseships, and fancy dinners! Way-cool stuff like national politics and public policy. And of course, the NFL and the LA Lakers! And the ultimate spectator sport: Women's Track and Field! There ain't a more BEAUTIFUL sight in the world than watchin' the ladies streak across the finish line with those lovely long legs!
In no particular order:Stevie Wonder, Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Iman (pretty enough to be a Raiderette, for sure), Tina Turner, Larry King, Prince, Labelle (especially Nona Hendryx), Sen. Barack Obama, former Sen. George Allen (I'd LUV to interview him about his recent discovery of his true family heritage), Don King, Aretha Franklin, John Madden, and Todd MacFarlane....but did I mention Nona Hendryx? Nona freakin' Hendryx???!!!
hey! waitaminnit!!! I MET NONA HENDRYX ON JUNE 21, 2008 IN HOLLYWOOD!!! yeaaaaaah baby!!!
Reggae Dancehall...ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTES! Dontcha know that reggae music has evolved just like all other genres, and you're missing out if you haven't heard! The dancehall queen Sister Carol's "Strong And Fit" will get your party started every time! Also, old-skool 70's Jazz Fusion like Richard Tee, Jeff Beck, and Weather Report, 70's Funk ("a poppin' bass line be fine!"), Wally Badarou, and Ryuichi Sakamoto! His songs "End of Asia" and "Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence" have no peer (Sakamoto also did that mesmerizing song for the final balcony scene in the movie "Babel"). I also like some of the electronica/lounge groups like Abraham and Djuma Sound System's "Les Djins - Trentemoller Remix", a way big hit; Sirius Satellite Radio's "Chill" channel plays mad cool stuff like this all the time!
Anything by James Cameron ("The Abyss" is my all-time fave), "12 Angry Men", "Creepshow", "Purple Rain", "Bourne Identity", "Where Eagles Dare", "American Pie", "TNT Jackson", "Cotton Comes To Harlem" (free Deke O'Malley!), "Something About Mary", "Stop Making Sense", "The Road Warrior" (a movie about hope and pulling yourself from the edge of despair), and "The Green Mile".
One can't help but cheer the hero's efforts when watching "My Name Is Earl". And there isn't a better political story arc to follow than "Ghost In The Shell".But I admit it: I dig ALL VH1 Celebreality, "Flavor Of Love", "I Love NY", "Charm School", "Surreal Life", and "Fit Club". These folks are becoming genuine celebrities in their own right (New York/Tiffany was the highest-rated female on cable TV), and only The Sopranos and WWE Raw Wrestling are more popular on cable. Yeah, I'm hooked...I can't wait to view the next chapters in the lives of Rain, Vanilla Ice, and Peter Brady.
"Raising Fences" by Michael Datcher, "Race Matters" by Dr. Cornell West, "Where The Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak (don't front....you've read it, too), Tom Clancy's "Net Force" series (on cd's), and Le Anne Schreiber, the ESPN Ombudsman, whose column/blog is posted on the ESPN.com website...there are people out there with the wisdom to save the world, and Ms. Schreiber is one of them. Believe me, if more people read Ms. Schreiber's words, there definitely wouldn't be as many problems out there today.
My mom. The JLA. Jenny Hamilton, my season ticket rep at the Oakland Raiders who takes care of everything and more for me and my guests. And most certainly, the special VISUAL music groups who started it all: Parliament/Funkadelic/Parlet/BridesOfFunkenstein/Bootsy Labelle, and Kiss. They all can take credit for having inspired us costumed Raiderfans with their look and innovation....the Raider Nation is forever grateful.
