DJ BOO, born and raised in Portsmouth, VA, has been surrounded by music while growing up around his fathers group, DJ Rockmaster and the Sundance group, which was a local DJ team located in Portsmouth, VA. From taking his the Numbers record to first grade for show and tell to carrying a wire or two to help his dad set up for a show, Boo has always had the love and passion for music. By the age of 14, DJ Boo and his childhood friends, Donny Ray, Snake, Moosey, and Lewis, started their own DJ group called R.I.P CITY Productions. They then started DJing at local schools, house parties, and block parties in order to make a name for themselves, however, dreams faded for some. Fortunately, not for Boo, he kept DJing with his friend, Donny Ray. Eventually, they both decided that DJing wasnt enough, and that they needed to spread their wings and venture to something else. Boo started producing and Donny Ray starting rapping. DJ Boo started calling his production team Bloodwork Beatz (Pookie, Tekno, Killa KD, Bless P, Tone Bone)his new found family. They began making tracks for local artists as usual until they decided to start their own label, Checkmate Entertainment, with help from Forest Shai McFarland R.I.P and June. Now Bloodwork Beatz& Checkmate Ent. has the streets buzzing off their mixtapes and and their new found sounds. After about 4 years engineering and managing the Checkmate studio, Boo & KD ventured off on their own, and started making beats inBoos mothers home. Along with a young artist by the name of Dictator DALONO they started recording and making records. Before long Boo started meeting people. He figured that it wasnt what you know it was who you know. Thats when he bumped head with Dip Set Head A&R Jamel MEL George at a show that CheckMate & 7 City Ent. Put together,Boo gave Mel a couple of beatz and thats when DJ Boo and KD landed their first track, on Hot Wright album, an artist sign to atlantic, and the rest was history. They started sending beats to labels like Warner/Atlantic Music Group and Dipset. Also they have featured artist such as Corté Ellis, who is a songwriter for Missy Elliot and Boogie Man, Kenny Wray, who is Nicole Wrays brother, and Napoleon, an artist from Wu Syndicate, on their mixtapes.
