It's a fuckin' arms race!

Once upon a time, there was a young female oddity. They called her Kat. Kat lived deep in a dark forest; alone. She spent her days lethargically moping about the house; singing songs of monsters and ghouls. He home was quiet and still. The vast walls were naked, not a garment to be found. Oh how she longed for a companion. The only company that Kat had, was her own shadow at sunrise. When traveling threw the woods one day in search of stones and flowers, she came across a small cottage. The smell of warm cinnamon and daisy filled the air. She could hear a soft hum coming from inside the small home. Kat was entranced by the sound. She found herself walking slowly towards the house; still memorized. She approached the front door, and softly pushed it open. Inside the home, sat an old woman. Her face was worn, and wrinkled. She sat on a wooden crafted rocking chair. It was her voice that had put Kat into a trance. “Hello child…” she spoke softly. Kat gave a small smile to the woman. She wasn’t scared, she could see kindness in the woman’s eyes. “What is it that you desire? What is it you yearn?” Kat stood and thought. She had never once though of truly “yearning” anything, and to hear such a question, some what shook her. Kat pondered. She stood before the old woman for some time. “True love” Kat said quietly. “Very well.” The old woman said. “I am the witch of the forest. It’s been years since the last time I had seen another person. You have granted me happiness with your smile, so I shall grant to you what you long for.” Kat closed her eyes tightly, not knowing what to expect. When she opened them, she found herself back home in her bed. “What a dream…” she said to herself with disappointment in her voice. She rolled over on her side to see a very handsome boy lying next to her. His eyes were closed, and there was a slight smile on his lips. She was startled and very confused by the sight. The boy opened his eyes, and let out a soft sigh. “Good morning my love” he said leaning over to kiss Kat softly. She now knew that her wish had come true.As Days Passed…The love between Kat and her new companion Tyler became stronger with every new day. The two filled Kat’s once empty home with love and happiness. Kat no longer sang of monsters, but of love and flowers. Kat couldn’t believe the happiness that Tyler had given her. As time passed, the two began to think, of course their love was true, but just who loved the other more. The question haunted the two for months. They tried their hardest to prove their love stronger than the other’s, but no matter how hard they tried, they just couldn’t prove ‘who loved who more’. Tyler began to get very frustrated; he thought that his love for Kat was much stronger than hers. He became so frustrated that late one night, while Kat was in a deep slumber, he traveled into a small town in search of a way to prove his love. While in town, he came across jewelry, and gems, polished stones, and beautiful potted flowers, but nothing that could help him prove his love. He had almost given up, until he passed a small dark shop. He walked in. there was not much light, and there was a strange odor in the air, a very earthy odor. A short man was sitting on a stool, playing a wooden flute. Tyler approached the man, and told of wanting to prove that his love for Kat. The man seized his flute in one hand, and rubbed his beard with the other. He reached behind his stool, and pulled out a small lamp. “Inside, there’s a genie, she will grant you one wish, and one wish only. Use it wisely” the man said, than continued playing his flute. Tyler was ecstatic! He ran all the way home. He couldn’t wait to make his wish. Once he arrived home, he walked quietly to the room in which he and Kat shared. Sitting at the foot of the bed, and staring at Kat as she slept, he made his wish. He wished that when Kat awoke, she would realize that he was more in love with her, than she could ever be with him. after casting his wish, he stashed the lamp under the bad and laid next to Kat. The sun began to rise, and Kat opened her eyes. She felt strange, but couldn’t understand why. Something was different, very different. As days passed she began to realize Tyler was acting very unusual. Late one night when Tyler was in a deep slumber, Kat snuck out to speak with the old witch of the forest. She approached the house, and she could smell the warm cinnamon and daisies again. She walked to the front door and opened it. She could see the woman sitting in the same spot she had been when she had granted Kat her wish. Kat gave a soft smile as she had that night. “Hello again child” the woman said still with kindness in her eyes. “Hello again” Kat replied. Kat explained the new feeling that she had been having. The old woman nodded her head. “I know why you feel this way” the woman said. She had explained to Kat that Tyler had gone into town and gotten a genie’s lamp from her brother. She told Kat that Tyler had wished to love Kat more than she could love him. Kat was shocked. She couldn’t believe that such a thing could be done. “I have the power to over rule his wish” the woman said. Kat nodded her head and closed her eyes tightly again. When she opened them, the feeling was gone. She was back in bed lying next to Tyler. She couldn’t wait until he woke up, and realized the changes.The End.Written by:
