I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Dancing, reading (especially in Cultured Girls London Book Club), dressing up, cheese, cocktails (they make me disproportionately happy - like a kid getting a lollipop), my friends who, given some space and some music will always be dancing, parties, posh dinners, language, the unexpected, eg. the old lady on the tube this morning engrossed in the John Peel autobiography, incongruity and unlikely contrasts, other people who smoke and have asthma (eases the guilt), girls with porcelain skin, new products for curly hair.

My Interests

Dancing, writing, dressing up, cheese, cocktails (they make me disproportionately happy - like a kid getting a lollipop), reading (especially in Cultured Girls London Book Club), my friends who, given some space and some music will always be dancing, parties, posh dinners, the history and evolution of the English language, language in general, the unexpected, eg. the old lady on the tube this morning engrossed in the John Peel autobiography, incongruity and unlikely contrasts, poetry, other people who smoke and have asthma (eases the guilt), girls with porcelain skin, effective new products for curly hair.

Music:

The Automatic, The Killers, Scissor Sisters, Kate Bush, Blondie, Suede, Pulp, Elastica, Gorillaz, Blur, Justice vs Simian, The Jam (Town Called Malice currently stalking me), Bananarama, Plump Djs, Girls Aloud, The Kinks, The Who, Sugababes, Eurythmics, Bloc Party, Lilly Allen, Bonnie Tyler, Crazy P, David Bowie, Fatboy Slim, Dolly Parton, Dusty, Lush, Donna Summer, Stanton Warriors, 2Many Djs, Nina Simone, Human League, Goldfrapp. Also, when I was a kid I made compilation tapes. They were numbered. I got up to V56, before technology overtook me. But having recently popped my ipod cherry I can now make playlists which are numbered from V57! Brilliant. And extremely cool. Well, my dad does have cassettes of every Beatles song ever recorded in ALPHABETICAL ORDER regardless of album, so perhaps this isn't really a surprise.

Television:

Lost (if it ever finishes downloading), Veronica Mars, Eastenders, Buffy, The Wonder Years, The L Word, Shameless, Sugar Rush, Beverly Hills 90210 (the early years) Big Brother (when it's not boring), Rock Profiles, What Not To Wear, 10 Years Younger, Simpsons, Futurama, the one with the evil baby, Friends, Sex and the City, Property Ladder, Jonathan Ross.

Books:

The Book of Dave (Will Self), The House of Sleep (Jonathan Coe), Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close (Jonathan Safran Foer), Bad Kitty (Michele Jaffe), Disobedience (Naomi Alderman), Last Chance Saloon (Marian Keyes), How I Live Now (Meg Rosoff), The Penelopiad (Margaret Atwood), Dead Famous (Ben Elton), Filth (Irvine Welsh), The Time Traveller's Wife (Audrey Niffenegger), Just In Case (Meg Rosoff), Dracula (Bram Stoker), The Tempest.

Heroes:

Mary Wollstonecraft, my mum. Not the same person, obviously.
