I am by no means a dj; but a loyal, dedicated fan to the music I support. And, I like to have fun with it; thus this page was created. Welcome to my "I'm NOT a dj page" :D
I've been a fan of EDM since I graduated high school; however in the last two years I have agressively pursued my interests. I've had experiences I would never trade; and shared smiles and laughs with some of the most talented EDM producers and performers in the world.
I started teaching myself to mix; with guidance from local DJ Jon Anthony in January of 2006 playing the same few records on hand-me-down, non-industry standard equiptment. And that makes me happy. Long ago during my freshman year of college; I became known as the girl who know the most about club music; and had the most dance cd's, thus I was assmillated into "DJing" parties at Drexel University... basically playing 2, regular shelf cd players hooked up to a mix board with no eq's... no pitch control; not exactly the same thing. But, being a non-beer drinker it gave me something to do during parties.
The hardest part of EDM is simply learning about it. There are so many genres and names and songs; and there is an underground and exclusiveness to it as well; thus making it even harder to explore EDM and it's culture as a whole. Other nations have the HUGE advantage of commercialized EDM, on the radio, all over the tv; it is party of their mainstream culture. American mainstream culture is controlled by radio which seems to be controlled by MTV. MTV raises great exposure to new musicians in certain genres, but leaves many other in the dark; neglecting a very powerful force. But sometimes I also think that EDM doesn't have an outgoing place is partly due to drug use, but combined with that; comes Americans tendancy to stereotype and put-down. They seem not to know the meaning of "support" or "enjoy". It's hard to have fun when so many are not.
So that is what mixing is for me; being able to spend time with the music I love. I don't have asperations to quite be a performing dj; although knowing my friends I know it is inevitable. My goal was to learn how to make corny cd's for my friends; and thanks to some awesome friends, I can now do that. Now... if only I could afford more records....ha ha ha! I have been a violinist for 18 years; so I understand the structures of music; my biggest challenge is refraining from dancing and paying attention to what's going on. Sometimes I like being conrolled rather than the one doing the controlling. I'm just here to have a good time.
MORE HEART; LESS EGO.
