ALBANY -- A 16-year-old youth, who only months ago was shot himself, has been charged with attempted murder in connection with a shooting early Sunday in the South End, police said. Raa-Jiem Z. Coleman, who lives on the other side of the city at 185 Second St., was arrested Friday morning after his alleged victim identified his photo earlier this week, according to police and court papers. The victim, who police identified as Phillip Moore III, 29, was shot in the left leg and buttocks but survived the attack, said Detective James Miller, a spokesman for the Department of Public Safety.Miller said Coleman is charged with shooting Moore just after 5 a.m. April 1 in front of 52 Benjamin St.Police could not provide a motive for the shooting late Friday, but Miller said detectives did not believe it was linked to Coleman's shooting in late January.Coleman was one of two people shot Jan. 30 while in a moving car that had exited Interstate 90 near Henry Johnson Boulevard and Livingston Avenue, Miller said. At the time, police did not identify the victims of that shooting but did say they believed the two, who were able to drive themselves to Albany Medical Center Hospital, had been targeted.Coleman's sister, Kim Goodwin, said her brother was shot in the arm and his stepfather, who was also in the car, was shot in the stomach. Both are recovering from their injuries, she said.In what neighbors described as a large show of force, Coleman was taken into custody at home Friday morning. He was arraigned in Albany City Court and sent to the Albany County jail without bail pending a court appearance next wee, police said.Coleman already had a warrant for his arrest out of Guilderland Town Court after he allegedly failed to show up there to answer misdemeanor weapons possession and disorderly conduct charge, according to court records.Goodwin denied the allegations against her brother."What they're saying he did is not true," she said. "He's only 16 years old."Goodwin said her brother has not been in school recently, instead receiving tutoring outside the building. Coleman was also charged with weapons possession.
