I was born in Donaghmore in Co. Tyrone on 23 September, 1980. I grew up steeped in Irish folk and country music, my mother's cousin being Philomena Begley, queen of country music in Ireland. I was singing and performing from an early age. On leaving school I trained to be a gas fitter but my first love was always singing and performing.
In 2002 I was selected from thousands of applicants to take part in the BBC Fame Academy production. I joined eleven other young talented performers and songwriters in the quest to win the coveted prize of a recording contract.
On leaving the academy, I was rewarded with a recording contract with Mercury/Universal and was the first student to release an album. Entitled 'Malachi' it went on to sell over 100,000 copies and reached number seventeen in the UK album chart earning a silver disc.
My self-penned single 'Just say you love me' held the number one spot in the Easy listening chart in Thailand resulting in a showcase visit to Bangkok in November 2003.
In November 2005 I changed record labels and released an album, Celtic Heartbeat.Since then I have been working on new material and presenting radio shows. A new album of mostly self penned tracks is being released on the Premier Music label in NOVEMBER 2007 to coincide with a Northern Ireland tour. .
