About Me

Liverpool based, Jajuka were formed in 2006 and have moved from strength to strength ever since. The line up of Rob (Vocals), Franny (Bass), Ash (Drums/Percussion), Tom (Lead Guitar), and the “lady” of the group Jade (Rhythm Guitar). They are a band who wear the influences on their sleeve and are not ashamed to admit it.They ain’t gonna start writing that they are one of a kind because at the end of the day every base in the music scene has been covered but there is still a place out there for a f*cking good band, there are no gimmicks no false pretences just great songs.A passion to perform has found Jajuka playing a number of gigs in and around Liverpool at local bars and packed out their first headline slot at the Liverpool Carling Academy in January 2008, despite stiff competition from a certain Beatle. A 3rd headline slot follows 14th June 2008.A recent review from Pantomime Music read… “This is a real cool and suave sounding band and their performance, just as cool. These guys are the ‘Fonz’ of bands. I recommend you listen to them on Myspace.”Following the philosophy of “Giving It Beans and F*ckin Lovin’ It” Jajuka continue to play gigs and record demos of new songs, hoping that one day they’ll conquer all or at least Liverpool and possibly Birkenhead maybe Swansea as well!
LIVERPOOL.COM MUSIC REVIEW by Marcel Deer........
Liverpool Quintet 'Jajuka' played an absolute blinder at Liverpool's Carling Academy on Saturday night. Although they were the first on of four bands, I feel as though the other bands should have supported these guys. From the word go Jajuka threw out a wall of sound across the Academy and left everyone amazed. The set started with the band's crowd pleaser 'Oh My' and flamboyant frontman Bob Westhead began marching with his hands clasped around the microphone with a voice that is Liverpool's answer to Jim Morrison. Donning a skinny leather jacket and a torn vest with skinny jeans on, he tore through the set with some amazing vocals. his vocals were complemented by equally amazing music, especially from drummer Ashley Downes, who appears to have been born with drumsticks in his hands! The look of serious intensity on his face throughout the set was almost scary, and at one point he wore a look of fury as he belted out a solo. The band sailed through their set with song titles such as 'Look's like James Dean', 'Car Crash' and 'White City', although much of the audience were a younger crowd that had come to see the headliner band 'Rebbecca', everyone was impressed with Jajuka's show. At one point I couldn't help but laugh because of the serious look on frontman Bob Westhead's face as he commanded the vocals 'grab my hand and take me through the back door'. As far as I'm concerned, Jajuka are producing the best bluesy music to come out of Liverpool in the past few years! They are breaking into the unsigned scene in Liverpool now with ease and after a set like Saturday nights.. it won't be long before they get snapped up by a label! ..
