munroe effect refers to the focusing of blast energy from an explosive, concentrating the explosion and creating a much more powerful result.. it also refers to a progressive, schizophrenic rock band based in Portsmouth, UK.
although the name was chosen by pure co-incidence, its meaning turns out to bear some relevance - the band's live performance tears through your defenses with a relentless agression delivered by an onslaught of jagged guitars, and a rhythm section based on a battering ram.. however, once positioned in the center of your attention, emotionally-loaded passages of epic noise and abrupt jazz interludes will spread through your body and secure them in your consciousness on a permanent basis.
it's this sound that led the band to the ears of London-based indie label function records in September 2007... their debut offering is double a-side "who's throwing rocks / subterranean death clash", out February 11th 2008 on limited-edition 7" vinyl and digital download.
combined with several tours planned for next year and a constantly-evolving sound coming from the rehearsal studio, 2008 is set to be an exciting year for munroe effect and anybody who's exposed to them along the way.
