I was invented by bakers in Russia in 1907,named Ben and Perry Feigenson. They started a company called Feigenson Bottling Works in Detroit,Michigan.Their origianl flavors:fruit punch grape and strawberry were based upon their own cake frosting .The first bottles sold for 3 cents or 2 for a nickel. In 1921,the brothers changed the name to faygo because Feigenson Brothers Bottling Works was too long to put on bottles. The next new products were Rock & Rye,Vanilla and Seltzer from a siphon bottle. The company moved to its current location on Gratiot Ave., in 1935.In the 1940's Faygo started doing commercials and added Root Beer and Uptown,a lemon-lime soda.In the 60's the name of strawberry soda changed to "redpop",and also introduced a new line of sugar-free soda.In the 80's Faygo Beverages was purchased by National Beverage Corp. of Ft. Lauderdale,Fl.In 2007,Faygo celebrated its 100yr anniversary with yr-long promotions and a 120pg recipe book
