I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I'm twenty-five years old. My passions in life include reading, writing, and cinema. I'm pretty laid-back and down-to-earth. I enjoy being out and about with friends: dinners, movie outings, browsing in bookstores -- particularly used book stores.Nightlife is fun from time to time, and I love taking in an evening of drinking and dancing into the wee hours of the morning, but I've honestly been partied out since around eighteen, so I don't go out that often. There's a million other things that keep my mind active. I'm a life-long El Pasoan, but I've lived in San Diego for a brief time, and now I'm in Los Angeles. I'm continuously working toward improving my mind (and on very rare occassions my physique) as well as pushing myself toward achieving my greatest desire: to write and direct my own films. In many ways, cinema is my religion and the silver screen is the altar at which I worship. In 2004, at the age of twenty-one, I became a NALIP (National Association of Latino Independent Producers) Writer's Lab Fellow and had the distinction of being the youngest person at their New York lab that year. I'm also a 2006-2007 Film Independent's Project:Involve mentorship program fellow. On their screenwriter track, I was mentored by Rebecca Sonnenshine (AMERICAN ZOMBIE) and attended workshops with Billy Ray (SHATTERED GLASS, BREACH), Doug Atchinson (AKEELAH AND THE BEE), Guillermo Del Toro (PAN'S LABYRINTH), James Mangold (3:10 TO YUMA), Paul Haggis (CRASH), Marc Forster (MONSTER'S BALL, STRANGER THAN FICTION), Curtis Hanson (LA CONFIDENTIAL, 8 MILE) amongst others -- like actresses Elizabeth Peña, Virginia Madsen and Lisa Kudrow. I don't just simply peg myself down as a "filmmaker" though; my interests also lean toward narrative fiction writing and drama (as in the theatre).Yes, I'm gay, if that matters to anyone. If I had to call myself anything, I'd say I'm a storyteller. That one word encapsulates every medium/outlet that relates to what I want to accomplish in this world...to tell stories for a living. And one last thing: I screen my "friends." Don't just add me to a laundry list of people you are collecting. Introduce yourself and drop a few lines...

My Interests

Reading: mostly fiction -- pop lit, the classics, etc. With nonfiction I'm a bit more particular: literary/film criticism I'm big on, I like biographies and memoirs, some current affairs and true crime, history, but I tend to stay away from science or things that get way too technical.Movies: Anything, anytime, anywhere.Music: Not an expert. I know what I like. And I know what I don't like when I hear it.

Poppy Z. Brite

Every so often, I find myself going back to the stories and the storytellers that were important to me in those wayward "formative years." I just can't seem to get away from them.  No matter what...

Strange Days, Weird Nights
